The Central Government’s Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme is creating new opportunities for rural youth in self-employment and entrepreneurship. Benefiting from this initiative, Abhishek Jaiswal, a farmer’s son from Burhanpur district, has not only transformed his own future but has also created employment opportunities for many people in his village.
Started a Processing Unit with ₹20 Lakh Loan
Under the PMFME Scheme, Abhishek secured a loan of around ₹20 lakh and established a processing unit in his village that manufactures powder from bananas and onions.
Sharing his journey, Abhishek says, “The loan under this scheme gave me the opportunity to start my own business. Today, I am self-reliant and also able to provide employment to others in my village.”
Brand Built on Diverse Products
The unit processes crops such as amla, bottle gourd, banana, onion, fenugreek, and brinjal by drying them and converting them into powder.
These powders are used to make ready-to-eat, ready-to-cook, and healthcare products, which are being marketed under the brand name Lala Harvest. The products are currently supplied to cities like Mumbai, Pune, and Bhopal.
Earning Lakhs Every Year
Abhishek’s enterprise is generating an annual income of around ₹10 to ₹12 lakh. He says that while there were challenges in the beginning, continuous hard work and proper planning have helped the business grow rapidly.
Employment Opportunities for Villagers
The unit has also become a source of employment for local residents. At present, six people are working directly in the unit, including four women and two men.
In addition, dozens of people are indirectly benefiting through marketing and supply chain work.
Village resident Ajay Mahajan praised the initiative, saying, “Abhishek’s effort is highly beneficial for the village. It is creating jobs and increasing farmers’ income.”
Direct Purchase from Farmers
Abhishek buys bananas and onions directly from local farmers, ensuring they receive better prices for their produce. These raw materials are then processed and sold in attractive packaging in the market.
A Model of Rural Entrepreneurship
Abhishek’s success story is emerging as an inspiring example of rural entrepreneurship. His model is not only a strong step toward Atmanirbhar Bharat, but also proves that with proper guidance and government support, major transformations are possible even at the village level.
