Top Government Schemes for Farmers in 2026: Full Details and How to Apply

0

The Indian government runs dozens of schemes to support farmers with financial assistance, crop insurance, irrigation infrastructure, and more. However, a large number of farmers remain unaware of the benefits they are entitled to. In this article, we bring you a complete overview of the most important government schemes for farmers in 2026, along with guidance on how to apply and what benefits you can expect.

1. PM-KISAN (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi)

Under this flagship scheme, eligible farmer families receive ₹6,000 per year as direct income support, paid in three installments of ₹2,000 each directly into their bank accounts. As of 2026, over 11 crore farmer families are registered under this scheme. To apply, visit your nearest Common Service Centre (CSC) or the official PM-KISAN portal with your Aadhaar card, land records, and bank account details.

2. PM Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY): Crop Insurance

Crop insurance protects farmers from financial losses caused by natural calamities, pests, and diseases. Under PMFBY, farmers pay a very low premium — just 2% for Kharif crops, 1.5% for Rabi crops, and 5% for commercial crops — and the rest is paid by the government. Claims are settled quickly using satellite and drone-based crop loss assessment. Enrolling through your bank or nearest agriculture department office is simple and strongly recommended.

3. Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY)

PMKSY focuses on expanding irrigation coverage and improving water-use efficiency under the motto “Har Khet Ko Paani, More Crop Per Drop.” Under this scheme, farmers receive 55% to 75% subsidy on drip and sprinkler irrigation systems. The Accelerated Irrigation Benefits Programme (AIBP) under PMKSY is also completing stalled irrigation projects across states.

4. Kisan Credit Card (KCC)

The Kisan Credit Card provides farmers with revolving credit to meet their agricultural needs — seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and equipment — at very low interest rates (as low as 4% per annum after interest subvention). The KCC also covers animal husbandry and fisheries. Farmers can apply through any nationalized bank, cooperative bank, or regional rural bank.

5. PM-KUSUM (Solar Pump Scheme)

Under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM), farmers can install solar pumps at 10-20% of the total cost, with the rest subsidized by the central and state governments. This scheme helps reduce electricity bills and provides reliable irrigation power throughout the year.

6. Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY)

PKVY promotes cluster-based organic farming by providing ₹50,000 per hectare over three years to farmers who switch to organic methods. It covers costs of organic inputs, certification, and marketing. Farmers interested in organic farming should form groups of at least 50 members and apply through the State Agriculture Department.

7. Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF)

The AIF provides interest subvention and credit guarantee support for setting up post-harvest infrastructure like cold storage, warehouses, sorting and grading units, and primary processing centres. Eligible beneficiaries include individual farmers, FPOs, and agri-entrepreneurs. Loans up to ₹2 crore are available at very favorable terms.
