We are going to tell you about Anoop Singh Pujari, a farmer from Ganipur village in Dausa district of Rajasthan. By cultivating guavas, he proved that farmers can earn many times more than traditional crops if they use modern methods. Today, he earns 5-10 lakh rupees annually, and seeing his success, nearby farmers are also turning to horticulture.
How did the journey begin?
Anoop Singh explains that his brother’s in-laws advised him to cultivate guavas. After this, guava trees were brought from there and planted here. He said that he planted 1,000 guava trees. Now, those 1,000 trees bear fruit twice a year. He further explains that he planted guava trees in 2020. They started bearing fruit in 2021.
Anoop Singh says, “If the produce is good, the income can reach up to 10 lakh rupees. However, he can easily earn 5 to 6 lakh rupees. The only expense is on medicines. He uses several pesticides to prevent pests. They are supplied to markets in many cities of Rajasthan. They are in good demand in nearby markets like Jaipur, Dausa, Sikandra, Mahuva, and Sikrai.”
How much does he earn?
Anoop Singh says that guavas bear fruit twice a year, doubling his income. According to him:
In a normal season, an easy income of 5-6 lakh rupees is generated.
With a good yield, profits of up to 10 lakh rupees can be generated.
The only expenses are limited to medicines and pesticides, which keeps costs low.
Why Horticulture is Better, Assistant Director of Agriculture Explains
Ashok Kumar Meena, Assistant Director of Agriculture in Dausa, says, “Most of the farmers here are practicing traditional farming, which is preventing them from increasing their income. To this end, all farmers are being advised through training and field visits to start cultivating horticultural crops alongside traditional crops. Plant orchards of various crops, including mango, guava, plum, amla, and belpatra. This can help farmers earn more income in less time and at lower costs.”
He further explains, “In this connection, our farmer friend Anoop Singh came into contact with us. We trained him, and now he is earning a good income from his guava orchard.” He is also motivating other farmers in his area to plant fruit orchards. As a result, the number of orchards in his area is increasing.
