An ultra-modern, fully automated polyhouse set up at the Agriculture Department Centre in Talab Tillo, Jammu, is proving to be a major boost for farmers in the region. Built at a cost of approximately ₹5.92 crore, this facility is helping farmers increase their productivity and income by providing high-quality plants at affordable rates.
A Polyhouse Equipped with Advanced Technology
The state-of-the-art polyhouse at the Talab Tillo centre operates on a fully automated system. It has been developed with the objective of supplying superior quality planting material to farmers and making agriculture more profitable. The facility is divided into two sections—one dedicated to raising vegetable nurseries and the other to cultivating flower plants. The hybrid plants grown here are playing a crucial role in enhancing crop yield and overall farm productivity.
Distribution of 15,000 Hybrid Plants
Under this initiative, around 15,000 hybrid vegetable and flower plants have recently been dispatched to the Akhnoor region. These plants will be made available to farmers at subsidized rates, ensuring access to high-quality planting material at lower costs. This step is expected to not only improve agricultural output but also positively impact farmers’ income.

Plants Available at Subsidized Rates
According to officials, farmers earlier had to purchase plants from the market at higher prices, which increased their overall cultivation cost. Now, the same quality plants are being provided at highly affordable rates—vegetable plants at just ₹2 per plant and other plants at ₹3 per plant. This initiative will significantly reduce input costs and increase the chances of better profits for farmers.
Year-Round Benefits for Farmers
The Agriculture Department has stated that the polyhouse will ensure a continuous, year-round supply of high-quality plants to farmers. This will make farming more organized and efficient, as timely availability of plants will help farmers plan their cropping cycles better.
The advanced polyhouse at Talab Tillo is giving a new direction to the agricultural sector in the Jammu region. By making quality plants available at affordable rates, this initiative is playing a vital role in increasing farmers’ income and promoting sustainable agriculture. In the coming years, this model could serve as an inspiration for other regions as well.
