Natural Farming: After retiring from the Air Force, Vijaypal Singh adopted natural farming and built a company worth crores
After retiring from the Air Force, Vijaypal Singh adopted natural farming, formed FPC and built a business of 7.5 crores with indigenous cows and sugarcane unit.
Vijaypal Singh, who belongs to Sherpur Khelamou, a small village in Haridwar district of Uttarakhand, has proved that if there is a passion to do something, then age does not matter. Vijaypal Singh retired honourably from the Indian Air Force, but instead of taking rest after retirement, he chose a new path – farming.
However, this farming was not just ordinary farming, but he adopted a method in which the yield of the land increases, the cost decreases and the environment is also protected – natural farming. Staying away from chemicals, he adopted the path of farming with the help of indigenous cows and organic methods and became an inspiration for others.
Launch of Farmer Producer Company
In 2014, Vijaypal Singh laid the foundation of a Farmer Producer Company (FPC) with the help of some progressive thinking farmers. Every farmer participated in this organization by buying shares worth ₹1000. Vijaypal Singh himself was elected its chairman. Initially, this organization was formed with the aim of uniting the farmers and collectively solving their farming related problems.
In 2016, this organization took a big decision – now all of them together will adopt natural farming and organic farming. For this, all the farmers were given a certificate of organic farming from USOCA, Dehradun. Along with this, farmers were also given proper training in the methods of natural farming, so that they can learn to farm without chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
Dairy Farm of Indigenous Cows and Supply of Ghan Jeevamrit
Vijaypal Singh did not limit himself to farming alone, he also started a dairy farm of indigenous Sahiwal cows. Today, his farm has 40 indigenous cows and 4 buffaloes. This farm is run using completely natural methods, in which organic fodder is given to the animals and no chemical medicine is used.
One special thing about this dairy is that Ghan Jeevamrit and Jeevamrit are prepared here on a large scale. Both of these are very useful organic fertilizers and nutrients for natural farming. Vijaypal ji produces them and supplies them not only to his fields, but also to those farmers who are unable to prepare them themselves. These solutions are directly delivered to the farmers’ fields through tankers, so that they can also easily take advantage of natural farming.
Sugarcane Processing Unit and turnover of 7.5 crores
In the year 2017, under the leadership of Vijaypal Singh, FPC achieved another major milestone – a sugarcane processing unit was started. In this unit, products like jaggery, sugar and sugar candy are prepared from organic sugarcane grown by farmers. This project was started with a bank loan of ₹ 20 lakh, but today this unit is doing an annual turnover of ₹ 7.5 crore, which is a huge success in itself.
This processing unit is certified by Onecert India Ltd and it meets all the standards of NOP (National Organic Program). The biggest advantage of this unit is that all the farmers associated with it get their organic sugarcane crop processed here, due to which they get a fair price and the role of middlemen has also ended. This initiative has not only increased the income of farmers, but has also created a strong platform to promote natural farming.
Natural methods adopted in Farming
The following points are special in Vijaypal ji’s method of natural farming:
The land is made fertile with Ghanjiwamrit, Jeevamrit and Neem Cake.
10 quintals of Ghanjiwamrit and 250 kg of Neem Cake are mixed per acre.
Jeevamrit is given to the crop 2-3 times in the form of spray along with irrigation.
Insect control is done with Neemastra and Neem Cake extracts.
Fungus is controlled with biological medicines like Trichoderma and Pseudomonas.
Green manuring and mulching is done after harvesting sugarcane.
The Crops they Grow
Vijaypal Singh grows the following crops through natural farming in his 5-acre farm:
Sugarcane
Wheat
Rice
Green gram
Potatoes
Onions
Mung beans (as intercropping)
Combination of Milk and Purity
Their organic milk is also very popular which they sell at the rate of ₹65 per liter. This milk is obtained from completely indigenous cows and it is also raised on fodder made without chemicals.
Support and Certification from the Government
Government assistance of ₹4 lakh was received for FPC office expenses.
All the farmers’ farming and processing units have received organic certification from USOCA and Onecert India Pvt. Ltd.Â
Branding and Recognition in the Market – JEEVAMRIT (Branding and Recognition in the Market – JEEVAMRIT)Â
Vijaypal Singh did not limit himself only to farming and production, but also paid special attention to the branding and marketing of his products. He gave a special name to products like jaggery, sugar and sugar candy – JEEVAMRIT. This brand has now become his identity.
All the products prepared under this brand are completely based on natural farming. This is the reason why their demand is increasing rapidly not only in India but also abroad. These organic products especially reach those buyers who are health conscious and want to stay away from chemicals.
The price of products sold under the JEEVAMRIT brand ranges from ₹ 65 to ₹ 80 per kg. Farmers also benefit from getting good prices and it has become a trusted name in the market.
Annual Earnings and Success
Vijaypal Singh’s annual net income through natural farming, dairy and organic products has reached around ₹ 10-12 lakh. This earning is proof that if work is done with the right direction and hard work, then good income is possible even from natural farming.
His success has not only changed his life, but has also inspired many other farmers to follow the path of natural farming.
Honours and Recognition
Vijaypal Singh has been honoured on many big platforms for his hard work, honesty and dedication towards natural farming. He has received appreciation from many institutions including the Governor of Uttarakhand, Agriculture Department, District Industries Department. Not only this, he has also been praised by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, which is a huge achievement in itself. This honour not only recognizes the hard work of Vijaypal Singh, but is an inspiration for all those farmers who want to do something new by adopting natural farming.
Conclusion
Vijaypal Singh’s story tells us that natural farming is not only beneficial for the environment but can also empower farmers economically. Today, when farmers are troubled by chemical farming, this can become an inspirational model. If you are also involved in farming and want to do something new, then you can make a new beginning by adopting natural farming like Vijaypal ji.
