Started vermicompost business with 25 beds
Tahir Hasan says that he has been making vermicompost for 13-14 months. He started this work with 25 beds. Now he has 250-300 beds. Tahir Hasan said that even in such a short time, his experience of work has been good, the demand for vermicompost is also good, so he has not faced any kind of problem till now.
Regarding its beginning, he tells that earlier he was doing contracting work and is also a village panchayat member, then he thought of doing some other work along with it. For this, he first thought of opening a dairy, but friends said that there is more risk in it, so he left this work. Then when someone told him about vermicompost, he gathered information about it by searching on YouTube and then started it. He started this work with 25 beds, but as the demand increased and there was good sale, he increased it to 250 to 300 beds.
Where did you get training to make vermicompost?
Seeing the benefits of vermicompost business and its increasing demand, Tahir Hasan is going to clear 5 bigha sugarcane field and make vermicompost in it. Regarding training, he says that he learned to make vermicompost from one of his acquaintances in Saharanpur, who has been doing this work for years. Along with taking training from him, Tahir Hasan also took earthworms from him and then started the work.
How to make vermicompost?
Tahir Hasan says that it is very easy to make it, it is not rocket science. First, the soil is leveled. Then a bed of 3 feet wide and 30 feet long is made, plastic is put on it and a ridge is made with soil on the sides. Then 20-25 days old raw cow dung is put, earthworms are put on it. The cow dung should not be too old. 15 quintals of cow dung and 30 kg of earthworms are put in one bed.
After 90 days, the earthworm eats about 9 quintals of cow dung and the remaining 6 kg of manure is obtained. Moisture is very important for making vermicompost, so after making the bed, it is covered with straw. Then water has to be poured on it every day. Water should be poured daily in summer and every day in winter. It should not dry up, otherwise it will be of no use to the earthworms. Manure is ready in 90 days.
How is manure extracted?
After 90 days, the manure is 80% ready. Then the straw is removed from the bed and it is left open in the sun for 4-5 days. Due to which the earthworm goes down and then the manure is taken out from the top and it is filtered and packed. The earthworm goes to the new bed, which is renewed again, that is, a new bed is made again.
Free training is given to farmers
Tahir Hasan says that he easily gets the raw material for vermicompost, that is, cow dung, because there are many cow shelters nearby, he gives free training to the farmers who come to him to learn. Many farmers are producing vermicompost themselves by making a bed to use it in vegetables and small crops. Not only this, Tahir Hasan is promoting organic farming by providing vermicompost to farmers at a low price. Vermicompost is sold at the rate of 250-500 rupees per kg in the market, whereas he sells it at just 200 rupees per kg.
How do you market vermicompost?
After starting something new, there is always a problem in selling it, i.e. marketing it, but Tahir Hasan says that he did not face any problem, because the company he is associated with buys all his goods, along with this, there is a demand for his fertilizer among the farmers at the local level as well. People from Dehradun also come to buy fertilizer from him, because he is providing good quality at a low price.Â
How much change is visible in the farmers?

It was used in wheat, potato, mustard and small crops and after getting good results, the farmers came again to buy the fertilizer. This shows that they are liking it. Tahir is especially appealing to the farmers to use organic fertilizer in small crops.
How much is the income?

He himself also does organic farming
Tahir says that to make farmers aware and show its good results, he has recently planted many other things along with potato, garlic etc. The farmers who come for training, he shows them the growth of the crop, which inspires the farmers to adopt it.
