Proper Care of Cattle in Monsoon | The rainy season is as pleasant as it sounds, but it is also challenging. Especially for cattle herders. In this season, due to water, the ground becomes slippery. This increases the risk of animals falling and getting injured increases manifold. Along with this, they get wet grass in which nutritious elements are less and the risk of diseases also remains manifold. In such a situation, everything from the place of residence to the diet of the animals needs to be taken care of, otherwise, the cattle rearers may have to face the risk of animal death and less milk production.

Rainy season Diseases

The monsoon lasts from June to September in our country. During this season, due to water logging in the animal enclosure, the risk of serious diseases like coccidiosis or cuckoo disease, and foot rot increases. Apart from this, the risk of Thanela disease also increases. Animal rearers should get cows and buffaloes vaccinated against strep throat and lameness fever before the onset of monsoon.

The problem of kidney disease in cattle can also increase in monsoon. If there are too many ticks in their living place, then the risk of diseases like Sarra, Thellenaria, and Babesiosis increases in animals. In this animals get high fever as well as anemia.

Take care of Housing

Along with the place of residence of cattle in monsoon, their diet also needs to be taken care of. Do not allow water to fill their habitat in the rainy season. Try to keep their enclosure as dry as possible. To avoid the problem of water-logging, zinc-plated corrugated sheets of steel or iron should be used for roofing the animal housing. Sprinkle lime in the enclosure twice a week and the surrounding area should be kept clean.

Give dry fodder for a nutritious diet

In this season, due to rain, the grass remains wet, due to which more water and nutrients are reduced in it. It leads to animals having digestive problems. That’s why they should be given dry fodder along with green fodder. Dry fodder gets moldy quickly in this season, so store it properly. Along with diet, drinking water should also be clean, because there is a high possibility of animals falling ill in this season.

Protect against Bacteria

Due to the moisture in the rainy season, bacteria spread rapidly. That’s why spraying of anthelmintic medicine should be done in this season at the place of keeping animals. This will not affect the bacteria in animals. Deworming is necessary throughout the monsoon.

Deadly East Coast Fever

East Coast fever is very dangerous, and can even kill animals. To prevent this disease in the rainy season, it is necessary that there should be no flies around the animals. Fever is caused by only one species of fly.

Milk production of milch animals usually decreases in the rainy season. But if the animal parents take special care of their cleanliness and food, then they will not have to suffer.
