To make farming a profitable business, it is necessary for the farmers to be aware of the new technologies coming in this field every day. One such advanced farming technique is the Integrated Farming System. Instead of just farming, farmers are now adopting integrated farming system i.e. other activities related to agriculture like animal husbandry, poultry farming, production of vermicompost etc. This reduces their costs and increases profits. The best example of this is Jeevan Ram, a farmer living in Bujada village of Dungarpur district of Rajasthan. Jeevan Ram, who once had hard living conditions, is now earning good income.

There was no profit from traditional farming

Farmer Jeevan Ram, who hails from Bujada village in Dungarpur district of Rajasthan, is a middle-class farmer, who has 4 hectares of land and has a proper irrigation system. Despite this, the income of his family from farming was very less.

The financial condition of the house was not good, due to which he could not continue his further studies after 12th and went to Kuwait in search of work. There too, nothing could be found. Then he returned to his village and started farming with his father.

He used to grow local varieties of maize, rice, wheat, moong, urad, gram and sugarcane, which did not yield much. He also had 2 buffaloes, but they gave very little milk. 5 years ago he bought 7 cross breed cows and 3 Murrah buffaloes with the help of NABARD on loan. However, due to lack of knowledge of dairy business, he failed to make profit from it. Jeevan Ram constantly tried to find out training programs related to agriculture to improve his economic condition and find ways to make profits from agriculture.

He participated in different training programs, seminars, Kisan Mela and animal treatment camps on improved varieties of vegetables, value added products, new techniques of animal husbandry, pest management and poultry. On the advice of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, he started growing improved varieties of crops and vegetables and soon started gaining profits. (Agricultural Techniques)

Along with this, crops like maize, soyabean, moong, chilli, ladyfinger etc. were demonstrated in his field. He kept in touch with Krishi Vigyan Kendra to get information about new technology continuously. He is also a member of the WhatsApp group of Krishi Vigyan Kendra.

With the use of new technology and his hard work and dedication, he was able to improve his standard of living and his income increased. He is earning Rs 8.10 lakh annually from crop production, vegetable production, vermicompost unit and poultry farming. Now he has become a progressive farmer of his area and nearby farmers come to him to know about the advanced farming systems and new techniques of animal husbandry. Apart from this, he also trains other farmers in the trainings being conducted at Krishi Vigyan Kendra.
