Artificial Insemination in Pig Farming in Nagaland is getting tremendous benefits

0

Artificial Insemination in Pig Farming in Nagaland is revolutionising pig farming, increasing production by combining new technologies with traditional methods.

Nagaland, called the state of festivals, is not only famous for its cultural heritage and picturesque scenery, but the people here also have their dependence on agriculture. About 70% of the population is engaged in agriculture, but there is one sector that has now become a symbol of change—pig farming. This change, which is a confluence of traditional methods and new technologies, has brought a revolution in the field of pig farming.

Challenges in the pig farming sector

The traditional method of pig farming in Nagaland was facing many challenges:

50-60% reduction in meat production

Small-scale farming

Lack of breeding technology

Expensive breeding bulls

Risk of African swine fever

Keeping all these problems in mind, artificial insemination has given a new direction to pig farming.

Pig Farming

ICAR (Indian Institute of Agricultural Research) developed a new technology, Artificial Insemination (AI), which is solving many problems in pig farming. This technology not only reduces the cost of pig farming but also increases the productivity of pig farming.

Advantages

Reduction in disease transmission: Artificial insemination reduces the risk of spreading diseases. Rapid genetic improvement: Pigs with high quality genetic traits can reproduce quickly.

Higher production at lower cost: More piglets are produced at lower cost.

New hope for farmers: This technique gives farmers the possibility of better profits.

When was artificial insemination started?

Artificial insemination in Pig Farming was implemented in 2016-17 and it became a great success in no time. Under this technique:

Artificial insemination was done on 6,120 piglets.

The insemination process was completed in 5,791 farms.

43,243 new piglets were born.

An average herd had 8-10 piglets.

This process completely changed the traditional methods of pig farming and showed a new direction for farmers.

New opportunities arising from artificial insemination

The use of this technique not only increased the productivity of pig farming, but also gave birth to new entrepreneurs. 23 young entrepreneurs of Nagaland were trained and this technique was expanded in 5 districts. The successful use of artificial insemination technique in pig farming also impressed the governments of Sikkim and Nagaland and they showed interest in this technique.

Increase in farmers’ income after artificial insemination

After the successful implementation of this technique, the income of farmers has increased. Many farmers of Nagaland adopted this artificial insemination technique and achieved success. Now this technique has started spreading throughout the state, due to which farmers are getting more profits.

Future prospects

The future of pig farming and artificial insemination is very bright. In the coming time, this technology will be implemented in every district, and the income of farmers will increase further. Government support and policy making of this technology will further increase its impact.

With the widespread dissemination of this technology and government support, there is a possibility of further growth in the field of pig farming. Along with this, the use of artificial insemination will make pig farming a stable and profitable business, which will further strengthen the economic condition of the farmers.

Conclusion

Artificial insemination has made pig farming a stable and sustainable business. Now every farmer has the opportunity to rear high-quality pigs, allowing them to improve their income. Artificial insemination in pig farming marks an agricultural revolution in the state and its spread will not only increase meat production but will also lead to economic empowerment.
