If the farmers cultivate smooth ridge gourd in a scientific way, then good production can be obtained from its crop. Smooth ridge gourd is cultivated all over India. It is a vegetable planted on the vine. Its vegetable is in demand in India from small towns to big cities. There is a lot of demand for it in the market during summer, so it is very profitable for the farmers to cultivate it. Zucchini is rich in vitamin C, iron, magnesium, thiamin, riboflavin, and zinc. Apart from this, the amount of fibre in it is also high. If farmers sow improved varieties of ridge gourd, then farmers can get good profit.

Improved Varieties of Zucchini: 

Kashi Divya – The stem of this variety of ridge gourd is 4.5 meters long and the fruits are cylindrical. The colour is light green and the length is 20 to 25 cm. The crop is ready after 48-50 days of sowing. Its yield potential is 130-160 quintals per hectare.

Pusa Sneha- The colour of this variety of zucchini is dark green and the length is 20-25 cm. The crop is ready for harvesting in 50-55 days after sowing the seeds. It also has good yield potential. 200-230 quintals of rapeseed is produced per hectare.

Swarna Prabha- This variety takes a little longer time to get ready, but yields well. The crop becomes ready for harvesting in 70-75 days after sowing. The yield potential per hectare is 200-250 quintals.

Kalyanpur Hari Chikni- The fruits of this variety of zucchini are medium sized and pulpy. Light stripes are formed on the fruits and the yield potential of this variety is very high. 350-400 quintals of rapeseed is produced per hectare.

Pusa Nasdar- The colour of the fruit of this variety of ridge gourd is light green. Its pulp is white and green. The length of the fruit is 12-20 cm. Its yield potential is 150-160 quintals per hectare.

Sarputia- The specialty of this variety is that the fruits come in bunches. They are small in size and the stripes on the fruits are raised. Its peel is also a bit thick and it is generally grown more in the plains.

Important things related to the cultivation of Ridge Gourd 

The cultivation of ridge gourd requires warm and humid weather. It can be successfully cultivated in both rainy and summer seasons. It is good to cultivate in sandy loam or loam soil. Along with this, it is necessary to have a good drainage system in the field. It is suitable to put 3-5 kg of seed in one hectare. The furrow method is considered most suitable for sowing of ridge gourd. Manure is very important for a good crop. That’s why mix about 20-25 tonnes of rotten cow dung manure in the field. Apart from this, also add nitrogen, phosphorus and potash.
