0

Shiv Kumar Maurya, a resident of Raipur village in Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh, is a farmer who has moved beyond traditional farming to touch new heights in food processing and organic farming. Shiv Kumar is not only a progressive farmer but also an innovative entrepreneur who is bringing economic and social change in his village and surrounding areas through value addition of his produce.

Journey from childhood to becoming a farmer scientist

Shiv Kumar Maurya was born on 8 March 1984. Born in a simple farmer family, Shiv learned the nuances of farming from childhood. His education helped him strike a balance between the traditional and scientific approach to farming. In 2013, he moved towards food processing and organic farming.

He said:

“There was always hard work in the fields, but it was important to find a way to increase the profits from it. This thought inspired me to work in the direction of food processing.”

Food Processing and Innovation

Shiv Kumar used his agricultural land to cultivate crops like aloe vera, basil, sugarcane, and moringa. He focused on processing these products rather than selling them directly. His unit produces juice, gel, and soap from aloe vera. Tulsi extract and panchanga, sugarcane vinegar, and moringa powder are his major processed items.

He says:

“Moringa powder is useful in more than 300 diseases. We resorted to several research and techniques to prepare it.”

His farm has more than 500 species of plants, creating a new model for climate resilience.

Contribution to organic farming

Shiv Kumar adopted organic farming through vermicompost. Chemical fertilizers are not used on his farm. Instead, farming is done using natural manure and organic methods. He said that organic farming not only increased the fertility of his soil but also improved the quality of his crops.

Inspiration and guidance for farmers

Shiv Kumar’s farm is not just a farming land, but it has become a learning centre. Every year many farmers visit his farm and learn about new techniques. Shiv Kumar not only trains them but also shares his successes and challenges.

“My aim is not only to increase my income. I want more and more farmers to adopt organic farming and food processing so that their economic condition can improve.”

Award and achievements

Shiv Kumar has received several national and international awards for his innovation and agricultural contribution. These include the “International Environment Warrior Award” by the Government of Nepal, “Pratham Tomato Production Award” by the Government of Uttar Pradesh, and the award by Bhabha Science Club.

Apart from this, he has also received more than 100 local and state level awards.

“Every award inspires me to move forward and do better. It is a matter of pride not only for me but for my entire village and region.”

Benefits of Government Schemes

Shiv Kumar availed several government schemes to strengthen his farming and processing activities. Under the Farm Machinery Bank Scheme, he received equipment such as processing machines, electric dryers, multi-processing machines, fryers, grinding machines, solar panels, sprinklers, and drip irrigation systems.

“The government schemes have increased my efficiency manifold. Now I can prepare my products in a more effective and efficient manner.”

Environmental Protection and Community Development

Shiv Kumar focuses on environmental protection along with farming. Climate-friendly crops and water conservation techniques have been adopted on his farm. He motivates farmers to stop burning stubble and use it as manure.

“Our environment is our strength. If we save it, our next generation will also be healthy and prosperous.”

Future Plans

Shiv Kumar now plans to take his products to national and international markets on a larger scale. He wants to further expand his food processing unit. His dream is to make organic products reach every household.

He says:

“I want more and more farmers to take up organic farming and food processing through my inspiration.”

Shiv Kumar Maurya’s story proves that with the right approach, hard work, and innovation, any farmer can make a name for himself. His farming methods, food processing techniques, and community contributions are an inspiration to other farmers.

Shiv Kumar is not only providing healthy produce through his crops but is also showing farmers the path to become self-reliant. His journey shows that even rural India can be revolutionized through global thinking and efforts.
