Horticultural Crops | New Record of Production of Horticulture Crops: The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, on the basis of information received from States/Union Territories and other government agencies, has integrated, in respect of area and production of Horticulture crops for the year 2021- 22 final figures and first advance estimates for the year 2022-23 have been released.

The production of total horticulture crops in the year 2021-22 has been recorded at 347.18 million tonnes. It is 12.58 million tonnes more than the production of 2020-2021 with an increase of 3.76 percent. In 2022-23, it is estimated that the total horticulture production is likely to be a record 350.87 million tonnes, an increase of 3.69 million tonnes (1.06%) over the final figures of 2021-22.

On this new estimate of the area and production of horticulture crops, Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that under the efficient leadership and guidance of the Prime Minister, the tireless hard work of our farmer brothers and sisters, the skill of scientists and the farmer-friendly policies of the Central Government and with the cooperation of the state governments, record production is possible in the country.

Highlights of 2021-22 (Final figures) in respect of area and production of horticulture crops:

  • The production of total horticulture crops in 2021-22 is set at a record 347.18 million tonnes, which is about 12.58 million tonnes (3.76%) more than the production in the year 2020-21.
  • The production of fruits in 2021-22 stood at 107.51 million tonnes as against 102.48 million tonnes in 2020-21.
  • Production of vegetables to be 209.14 million tonnes in 2021-22 as compared to 200.45 million tonnes in the previous year, an increase of 4.34%.
  • Onion production in 2021-22 was 31.69 million tonnes, as against 26.64 million tonnes in 2020-21.
  • Potato production in the year 2021-22 was 56.18 million tonnes, which was almost the same as in the previous year.

Highlights of 2022-23 (First Advance Estimates):

  • The total production of horticulture crops in the year 2022-23 is estimated to be 350.87 million tonnes. It is an increase of about 3.69 million tonnes (1.06% more) than that of 2021-22 (Final).
  • Production of fruits, vegetables, spices, flowers, aromatic and medicinal plants, and plantation crops is estimated to increase over the previous year.
  • The production of fruits is estimated at 107.75 million tonnes as against 107.51 million tonnes in 2021-22.
  • The production of vegetables is estimated to be 212.53 million tonnes as against 209.14 million tonnes in 2021-22.
  • Onion production is estimated at 31.01 million tonnes as against last year’s 31.69 million tonnes.
  • Potato production is estimated at 59.74 million tonnes, as against 56.18 million tonnes in 2021-22.
  • Tomato production is estimated at 20.62 million tonnes as against 20.69 million tonnes in 2021-22.
  • The production of aromatic and medicinal plants is estimated to be 680 thousand tonnes as compared to 664 thousand tonnes in 2021-22.
