If you are involved in animal husbandry or dairy business, then it is important to know these important points, do not ignore them
Animal husbandry business: Small farmers can improve their economic condition by starting animal husbandry or poultry farming in the courtyard of their house, but to earn good money from animal husbandry, one should know the right way to take care of animals, and also have information about improved breeds of animals.
Suppose if you do not know about the diseases that affect animals, then how will you take care of your animal when it falls ill, and if proper care is not taken, then the animal can die due to many diseases. Dr. S.C., Head and Professor of the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, Pantnagar University. Tripathi shared many important information related to animal diseases, their breed as well as animal husbandry with Kisan of India correspondent Deepika Joshi.
Advanced breed of chickens
Chicken is an excellent source of increasing the income of farmers. Kadaknath chicken is in great demand today, its meat tastes very good. Farmers raise it for meat and eggs. Kadaknath is originally a species of Chhattisgarh.
Talking about another advanced breed of chicken, Dr. Tripathi says that Uttara fowl species developed by Pantnagar scientists is also being promoted. Their demand is also high among farmers. Apart from this, another breed of chicken RIR is also quite popular. Actually, this is the best breed for poultry farming, because it matures quickly. It is best to raise it for meat and eggs.
Regarding the high price of Kadaknath chicken, Dr. Tripathi says that the cost of managing these chickens is high, so they are sold in the market for up to Rs 1000 per kg.
Promotion of Sahiwal cow in hilly areas
Professor Tripathi says that Sahiwal is an indigenous breed. Even though the milk from cross breed cow is less, the quality of milk is good. To promote indigenous cow rearing, his department encourages farmers to rear this cow. Under a project, many farmers have been selected, to whom the department people go and tell them about the proper care and diet of the cow as well as how the cow can be bred in a short time. Farmers are also given training from time to time.
Diseases transmitted from animals to humans
Professor Tripathi says that it is very important for livestock farmers to know which diseases can be transmitted from humans to animals and from animals to humans, because livestock farmers always live with animals. He says that tuberculosis and brucellosis are the two main diseases that can spread from animals to humans and vice versa.
Professor Tripathi says that brucellosis is a very dangerous disease that leads to abortion of animals. He tells us what precautions are necessary to be taken to prevent the disease. Vaccination is also necessary on time so that animals can be saved if any such disease occurs in the future.
Check for mastitis
This is another common disease that occurs in dairy animals and is also called mastitis. Many times, cattle owners do not understand whether the animal has contracted this disease. Mastitis can occur in one, two or all four udders. This has two disadvantages, one is that milk will not be available and secondly, such animals get a low price in the market.
Dr. Tripathi says that he has many methods to check for this disease. He tells that whenever you go for examination, bring milk from all the udders and after examination we tell them which udder is affected and what is the treatment for it. Which medicines are there, this is told so that the cattle rearer can use it.

Special equipment for animals
A special machine has been made to ensure that animals get clean drinking water, which keeps moving and water keeps coming. Along with this, a special machine has also been made to feed milk to piglets.
Pay attention to the actions of animals
Dr. Tripathi says that to keep the animals completely healthy, it is important to keep an eye on their actions, because sometimes the animal keeps doing strange things like licking another animal or licking the wall, which does not happen without reason. The reason for this is some deficiency in the body or some disease.
Many times animals keep licking other animals due to which hair gradually accumulates in their stomach and forms a ball the size of a football. This affects their digestion badly. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to the animal and consult a doctor in case of any problem.
Animal diet and medicine
Along with the care and management of animals, it is also important to give them good and nutritious diet, because only then they will give quality and more milk. Dr. Tripathi says that there are many herbs which have medicinal properties.Â
The university students do research on the medicinal properties of different trees, which tells us that what thing should be given in what quantity. Then it is given to the animals accordingly, so that their health remains good. He told that the university students are doing research on how they are treating animals with indigenous knowledge. Under this, medicines are prepared from available spices and herbs.
Deworming of animals is necessary
Professor Tripathi says that after the age of 3 months, many types of parasites start appearing in animals. These can be in any part of the body and destroy whatever part they go to. Therefore, his department is making farmers aware that they should keep checking the dung of the animal and get them dewormed every 3-6 months.
Pantnagar Agricultural University is continuously working on various aspects related to how farmers can increase their income by improving animal husbandry. With the objective of making farmers aware about animal health, an animal fair is organized here every year, where the best animals are selected.Â
