Mango Blossom: First of all, small brown or black spots appear on mango flowers and stalks. If farmers do not treat this disease at the right time, then these flowers gradually start withering and dry up and fall. Due to this, the production of the crop decreases. This disease spreads fastest in excessive waterlogging, dampness and humid weather, especially when the temperature is between 25 to 30 degrees Celsius.

As soon as flowers appear on the mango tree, the biggest risk is of the disease Mango Blossom Blight, which affects the mango flowers. Due to this, the production of mango is affected. If the farmer prevents this disease in time, then he can get excellent production.

Symptoms of Mango Blossom Blight

First of all, small brown or black spots appear on mango flowers and stalks. If farmers do not treat this disease at the right time, then these flowers gradually start to wilt and dry up and fall. Due to this, the production of the crop decreases. This disease spreads the fastest in excessive waterlogging, dampness and humid weather, especially when the temperature is between 25 to 30 degrees Celsius.

How to prevent Mango Blossom Blight

Mango Blossom Blight disease can be prevented to a great extent by cleaning the area around the mango tree or in the mango orchard before time. If symptoms of this disease were seen in the mango orchard last year or this disease had occurred, then farmers should cut off the branches affected by the disease and remove the flowers fallen on the ground.

Apart from this, there are mainly 4 ways to protect any crop from disease or pests. First of all, let’s talk about agricultural and mechanical management. That is, it is important to do the necessary farming related activities done throughout the year in the right way.

Agricultural and mechanical management

For the production of any crop, from sowing to harvesting, there are various types of agricultural activities like weeding, fertilizing and watering the trees, which are necessary to be done at the right time. Nitrogen, phosphorus and potash should be given in balanced quantities in mango orchards. So that the ability of plants to fight diseases remains intact. If the farmer does not give fertilizers to the trees in the right proportion, then the plants become weak and the ability to fight diseases decreases.

Organic management of Mango Blossom Blight

This disease can also be controlled in a natural way. For this, farmers can use Trichoderma based fungicides like – Trichoderma harzianum or Trichoderma viridi. This disease can be controlled by mixing it in 5 to 10 grams per liter of water and spraying it on mango trees. Apart from this, farmers can also spray 5 percent neem oil, which helps in preventing the spread of this disease. Neem oil is a natural remedy, which not only controls this disease, but also keeps the trees healthy.

Chemical Management of Mango Blossom Blight

Chemical management is considered to be the fastest effective method, but the thing to note is that chemical spraying can have a harmful effect on our health and environment. Therefore, it should be used thoughtfully and correctly.

If farmers want to do chemical spraying, then spray 1 gram of Carbendazim 50% WP by mixing it in one liter of water. Apart from this, you can also spray by mixing 2 grams of Mancozeb 75% WP in one liter of water.

When and how to spray the medicine

Farmers can spray the medicine with the help of a sprayer machine, if the length and width of the mango tree is more, then a high pressure sprayer machine should be used. The first spraying should be done before flowering i.e. at the beginning of flowering. It is advisable to spray the second time after 50% of the flowers bloom and the third time at the beginning of fruit formation. Yes..keep in mind that do not spray the medicine when there is strong wind and spray the medicine only after covering the whole body with clothes and wearing a mask.

Physical Management of Mango Blossom Blight

If farmers pay attention to some things during or after planting mango trees, then mango trees can be saved from the outbreak of this disease. It is very important to take care of these things under physical management.

Farmers do not plant mango trees in such fields where there is no drainage system, while planting the tree, choose such a field where irrigation water or rainwater does not remain stagnant for a long time because this disease can spread rapidly due to excess water.

Avoid irrigating the mango orchard or the tree when the tree flowers, because excessive moisture during flowering increases the risk of spreading the disease.

The most important thing is that when farmers plant mango plants, they should choose only disease resistant varieties. This will keep the mango trees strong and prevent them from diseases.

If farmers adopt all these measures like biological, chemical, agricultural, and physical methods then they can keep their mango orchards healthy and safe and get good production.
