Namo Drone Didi Scheme: Namo Drone Didi Scheme brings women empowerment and new revolution in agriculture
The main objective of the ‘Namo Drone Didi Scheme’ launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to empower the women of the country through drone technology. Under this scheme, women of Self Help Groups (SHGs) are given training in drone operation, so that they can spray nano urea, nano DAP and pesticides on crops for the farmers. This reduces the labor of farmers and they can produce more at a lower cost.
Agriculture in India has always been considered a male-dominated sector, but now this perception is changing. Under the ‘Namo Drone Didi Scheme’, women are not only standing on their feet, but are also helping farmers using modern technology. This scheme is making women self-reliant by training them to operate drones. The objective of this scheme is to promote modern techniques in agriculture along with women empowerment.
What is ‘Namo Drone Didi Yojana’?
The main objective of the ‘Namo Drone Didi Yojana’ launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to empower the women of the country through drone technology. Under this scheme, women of Self Help Group (SHG) are given training in drone operation, so that they can spray nano urea, nano DAP and pesticides on crops for the farmers. This reduces the labor of farmers and they can produce more at a lower cost.
How is this scheme changing the lives of women?
Hemvati and Rani Devi of Jhansi district are setting an example in their area by taking advantage of this scheme. Earlier these women were limited to only household chores, but now they are helping farmers in their villages through drone technology.
Hemvati’s story: A new confidence
Hemvati, who is from Gram Panchayat Bawal Tana, Vikaskhand Baragaon, District Jhansi, received training in drone operation from Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University, Hyderabad. After the training, she started providing the facility of spraying nano urea and nano DAP on crops through drones to farmers in her area.
She tells that earlier farmers used to spray crops in the traditional way, in which a heavy tank of 10-15 liters had to be carried on the shoulder. This not only took more time but also consumed more water. With the advent of drone technology, this work has now become very easy. Now the same amount of spraying is done with just 20 liters of water, which was earlier done with 100 liters of water.
Hemvati is not only helping the farmers but is also motivating other women to take advantage of this scheme. She says, “We should take advantage of the government schemes by joining our self-help group and become self-reliant.”
Rani Devi: Bringing change by going from village to village
Rani Devi, who is a resident of village Garhmau, Block Baragaon, District Jhansi, got a drone under this scheme. She took training at many levels. She tells that first she had a 10-day training in Hyderabad, then she also got additional training in Allahabad and Bihar.
Now she goes from village to village and sprays the farmers’ fields through drones, which is reducing the hard work of the farmers and increasing the yield. Her husband also gave her full support in this work, due to which she could become self-reliant.
She says, “When a woman goes out of the house, she needs support, and my husband gave me full support, due to which today I am going to my village and helping the farmers.” What are the benefits of drone technology to farmers?
1. Time saving: Earlier farmers had to work hard for hours to spray in the fields, but through drones this work is done in a few minutes.
2. Less water consumption: While 100 liters of water was required in traditional methods, now spraying can be done with only 20 liters of water.
3. Better and uniform spraying: With the help of drones, pesticides and fertilizers are sprayed uniformly, which keeps the crops healthy.
4. Low cost, more profit: With drone technology, farmers are getting more production at a lower cost, increasing their income.
5. Employment to women: This scheme is not only beneficial for farmers but is also giving employment opportunities to women.
Role of government and private companies
The government and private companies are also playing an important role in making this scheme successful. Companies like Hindustan Urvarak Rasayanik Limited (HURL) are helping women in drone training. After training, women are providing drone spray services for farmers, thereby empowering themselves financially.
Future prospects
‘Namo Drone Didi Yojana’ is a revolutionary initiative which is a big step towards making rural women self-reliant and modernizing Indian agriculture. In the coming years, more women will be trained under this scheme, enabling them to not only support their families but also promote technological innovation in the agriculture sector.Â
The ‘Namo Drone Didi Yojana’ has proved that women can progress in any field if given the right opportunity and training. Women like Hemvati and Rani Devi are an inspiration for the whole country. This scheme is not only making women self-reliant, but farmers are also getting the benefit of modern technology.
If this initiative continues to move forward in this way, then in the coming times, the landscape of agriculture in India can completely change, where technology and women empowerment together will start a new era.
