Ravindra Kumar Pandey, a resident of Tengai village in Kaushambi district of Uttar Pradesh, has made an important identity in the state by using new techniques in agriculture. Born on 11 October 1989, Ravindra has successfully used many modern methods in his 11-15 acre farm, which has not only increased his income but has also shown a new path to other farmers. He believes that using new techniques can not only increase agricultural productivity, but it can also strengthen the economic condition of the farmers.
Organic farming and use of dragon fruit
Ravindra Kumar Pandey has made a special identity not only in the state but also in other states by starting dragon fruit cultivation through organic farming in Uttar Pradesh. In 2016, when he initiated the cultivation of dragon fruit in an organic way, the farmers of Uttar Pradesh were almost unfamiliar with this fruit. He observed that dragon fruit is not only beneficial for health, but its demand is also increasing rapidly, especially in big cities. Keeping this in mind, he started cultivating it using organic methods, which also had a positive impact on the environment and maintained the quality of the soil.
Ravindra believes that dragon fruit can be cultivated in less water, which is an ideal option for drought-prone areas. The plant of this fruit does not require much care, and once it fruits, it gives good yield for many years. Ravindra also informed other farmers about this crop and provided them with its saplings, so that they can also cultivate this beneficial crop. He spread the cultivation of dragon fruit not only in Uttar Pradesh but also in other states like Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, attracting many farmers towards this new crop.
Ravindra has adopted many innovations in organic farming, which increased the quality and production of dragon fruit. He believes that organic farming is a powerful way for farmers to increase their income while at the same time providing consumers with safe and nutritious produce. Organic farming does not use pesticides and chemicals in the produce, which results in high quality of the crop and fetches good prices in the market. Ravindra also used techniques like drip irrigation and mulching for this crop, which saved water and improved production. His efforts have not only increased his income but have also won him various awards, making him a leading organic farmer.
Use of drip irrigation and mulching technique
Ravindra Kumar Pandey has set a new example by using drip irrigation and mulching technique in his farming. He adopted the drip irrigation system for water conservation, which reduced water consumption and provided the crops with the required moisture on time. Through this technique, he has achieved high productivity in major crops like banana and potato. Drip irrigation not only saves water but also maintains the balance of essential nutrients in the soil, which improves the health of plants and improves the quality of the crop.
Ravindra has also successfully used mulching technique for crops like watermelon, muskmelon and strawberry. Mulching is a method in which organic or inorganic material is used to cover the soil around the crop. This method not only retains moisture in the soil but also protects the crops from weeds. Additionally, mulching keeps the soil temperature balanced, which proves beneficial for plants especially in summers. This method also acts as a fertilizer for crops and is considered an ideal technique for organic farming.
Ravindra believes that the use of these techniques brings stability in crop production and these techniques are also friendly to the environment. While drip irrigation saves water, mulching improves the quality of the soil. It has been observed in his fields that the effect of drip and mulching techniques is not limited to productivity, but it also improves the quality of the crop. Due to these innovations, his income has increased significantly, and now he is also motivating other farmers to use these techniques. His approach towards these advanced methods and his hard work have made him a successful entrepreneur in the field of agriculture.
Production and use of biogas
Ravindra Kumar Pandey has prepared an important project of biogas production in his farming, in which he has taken a unique step towards environmental promotion and energy conservation by using agricultural waste and cow dung. In this system, he uses the gas produced by the biogas plant for domestic use, in which apart from cooking, biogas is also used for electricity and irrigation purposes.
Ravindra’s project not only saves energy but also reduces environmental pollution. Gas production from cow dung and organic waste also leads to the formation of slurry in the form of manure, which is used in the fields as organic manure, thereby improving the fertility of the soil. His move has been appreciated on many platforms and is being seen as an exemplary example for other farmers. Due to this innovation, Ravindra has played an inspirational role in the local community, where other farmers are also trying to become self-reliant in farming by adopting this initiative.
Benefit of government schemes and awards
Ravindra has taken advantage of government schemes for drip irrigation system in his farming. Due to his hard work and innovations, he has received various honors from the Government of Uttar Pradesh, ICAR, ATARI Zone, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) and many universities. These awards and honors are a result of his innovative efforts and his spirit to inspire farmers.
Towards the future with new technologies
Ravindra aims to bring more technological innovations in his agricultural activities and pass on the benefits to other farmers as well. He shares his experiences and makes local farmers aware about organic farming, drip irrigation and mulching techniques. He believes that using modern agricultural techniques can not only increase the income of farmers, but also make farming more sustainable and environmentally friendly.
