Jaikaran, who lives in Kharak Jatan village in Rohtak district of Haryana, has become a well-known name in the field of organic farming. Through his YouTube channel ‘Mhari Kheti Mhare Pashu’, he is not only promoting organic farming but has also inspired thousands of farmers with his techniques.

Samman 2024: Inspiration and beginning

Jaikaran says, “Farming is not just a matter of growing crops, but a means of well-being of the environment and society.” His organic farming journey began with the idea of how to reduce the cost of farming, increase the quality of produce and protect the environment. Understanding the importance of vermicompost, he implemented it in his fields. Today, he prepares his own organic manure and not only uses it himself, but also makes it available to other farmers.

Organic manure and vermicompost

Jaikaran’s vermicompost method has given a new direction to the farmers. He explains:

“Unless farmers make their own manure for their fields, there is no profit in farming.”

The major benefits of his vermicompost method are:

  • Improved soil fertility: Organic manure increases nutrients in the soil.
  •  Reduced costs: Reduced dependence on chemical fertilizers.
  • Environmental protection: Reduced use of chemicals reduces land and water pollution.
  • Jaikaran has so far trained more than 500 unemployed youths to make vermicompost and start organic farming.

A step towards poison-free food

Jaikaran’s main aim is to make poison-free food reach every household. He says:

“Chemical farming has poisoned both our food and environment. Organic farming is the solution.”

The crops grown in his farm are completely organic. He uses resources like neem oil, organic fungicides, and indigenous manure.

Samman 2024: Innovations in Agriculture

Jaykaran has adopted several unique innovations with organic farming:

1. Cow and buffalo contribution: The dung and urine obtained from the animals are used to prepare manure and pesticides, reducing dependence on chemicals.

2. Mixed crop cultivation: Growing co-crops of turmeric, pulses, vegetables and spices not only generates additional income but also maintains the fertility of the soil.

3. Neem oil and crop residue management: Instead of burning the crop residue, it is used to make organic manure. The use of neem oil and organic pesticides helps keep the crops disease-free.

4. Pheromone traps and organic fungicides: These are his priority low-cost and eco-friendly measures for pest control.

5. Water management: Drip irrigation is used to save water and provide continuous irrigation to the crops.

Jaykaran says:

“These techniques have not only increased my production but also reduced my costs by 30%. This model can prove useful for other farmers as well.”

Award and achievements

Jaikaran has received several awards for his innovation and dedication, including:

  • National Award
  • State Award
  • Honour by Agricultural University, Hisar
  •  Recognition as a vermicompost expert

His YouTube channel has also become a big medium, where more than 5,000 farmers are benefiting from his techniques.

Economic impact

Jaikaran’s annual income from organic farming is Rs 1-10 lakh. He says that organic farming has not only strengthened his financial condition, but has also created new employment opportunities for his community.

Benefits of government schemes

Although Jaikaran has not availed any government scheme so far, he helps other farmers to get information about government schemes and their benefits. He believes that if farmers use the right techniques and schemes, farming can become a profitable business.

Future plans

Jaykaran plans to expand his efforts further. He says:

“I want every farmer to adopt organic farming and make the country chemical free.”

He plans to take vermicompost production to a larger scale and set up a marketing network for organic products.

Conclusion

Jaykaran’s story is proof that with dedication and hard work in the right direction, farming can be made a profitable business. His initiative is not only contributing to environmental conservation but also presenting a model of employment and economic development in rural India.
