0

Kailash Chandra Sharma, a resident of Bijaynagar village in Ajmer district of Rajasthan, has created a new identity in the field of organic farming. His journey, which started as a small farmer, has today become a successful example of environmental protection and sustainable farming. This article is based on his inspirational story and his experiences related to organic farming.

Challenges faced by Kailash Chandra

Kailash says,

“When I left traditional chemical farming and started organic farming, the first few years were difficult. Production in the fields decreased, the infestation of diseases and pests increased. Seeing all this, I felt disappointed many times, but I did not give up.”

Together with the family, he gave priority to organic farming. By using natural resources like organic manure, Jeevamrit, cow urine, and vermicompost, he not only regained the fertility of his field, but also made a significant contribution to the environment.

Kailash says,

“Earlier we did not get any profit from our fields. Every year we had to suffer financial loss. But when I and my family fully adopted organic farming, gradually the results started showing.”

Start and success of organic farming

Kailash mainly included the following elements in his strategy for organic farming:

• Use of cow urine and organic manure:

He increased the fertility of his soil by using cow urine with every irrigation. Apart from this, he also used natural fertilizers like vermicompost and biochar.

• Jeevamrut and bed compost:

Kailash used Jeevamrut and bed compost regularly. These organic means made his soil healthy and brought stability in crop production.

• Disease and pest management:

Managing diseases and pests is a big challenge in organic farming. Kailash solved this problem with organic pesticides and traditional home remedies.

His experience shows that organic farming requires patience and time. While the production was low initially, after a few years he not only saw an increase in production but also an increase in the demand for organic products in the market.

Inspiration to become a debt-free farmer

Kailash said,

“Today my biggest achievement is that I am completely debt-free. Earlier I had to take a loan every year, but now my farm and my crops give me a stable income.”

His income from farming is between Rs 1-10 lakh per annum. This income has not only made his family self-reliant but also improved their lifestyle.

Positive impact of organic farming

According to Kailash, organic farming is not only beneficial for the environment but it also strengthens the economic condition of farmers. He improved the soil structure and fertility by using biochar and organic manure in his fields.

His crops are now sustainable and do not require any kind of chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Along with this, the quality of his crops is also better than conventional crops.

Inspiration to the community

Kailash is an inspiration to the farmers in his village and nearby areas. He says,

“Organic farming is not just a technique, but a way of life. I have learned from my mistakes, and now I share my experiences with other farmers.”

Kailash has organised several workshops on organic farming, where he makes farmers aware of organic manure making, disease management and sustainable farming.

Lack of government support

Although Kailash has not yet availed any government scheme, he believes that the government can do more to promote organic farmers. He says,

“If organic farming has to be taken in the right direction, the government should provide technical and financial support to farmers.”

Future plans

Kailash dreams of developing his farm as a model organic farm. He wants to make more technical improvements in his farming and also inspire farmers in the surrounding areas towards organic farming.

He believes that organic farming is not only a way to save the environment, but it is also a powerful means to make farmers self-reliant.

The story of Kailash Chandra Sharma shows how with patience, hard work and the right techniques, any farmer can make his farming profitable. His success is a proof that organic farming, which once seemed a difficult path, is today a strong solution not only for the environment but also for the economic condition of farmers.

Kailash’s life and his farming is an inspiration for today’s farmers. His experience gives the message that if we have to promote sustainable farming, then we have to move towards adopting and encouraging organic farming.
