Sanjeev Kumar is a resident of Roopwas Dadri village in Gautam Buddha Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh. There are 4 brothers in his family, who do different jobs apart from farming, but Sanjeev Kumar is the one who does farming for the entire family on 16 acres of land. Sanjeev Kumar has done BA in his education and started helping in farming after 10th class. He says that he was fond of farming since childhood. His father is a doctor by profession, but Sanjeev Kumar decided to make farming his career. He has been doing farming for the last 20 years and has now achieved success in the field of organic farming.

Starting of Organic Farming

Sanjeev Kumar says that initially he used to do farming in a traditional way, like people in his house and nearby villages did. But gradually he decided to join the Agriculture Department, where he got training on new methods of farming. The Agriculture Department also made him visit various universities, which increased his interest in organic farming. This experience forced him to think that organic methods should be adopted better than traditional farming.

Sanjeev Kumar says that he got the right guidance in organic farming in the year 2000 from Dr. J.P. Sharma, who was in charge of Pusa Institute at that time. Before this, he had participated in many agricultural fairs and had obtained information about organic farming by visiting Pusa Institute. After these experiences, he moved towards this method and adopted it for 7-8 years. Although due to some reasons, he stayed away from this method for two years, but then he started organic farming again by joining Patanjali and other agricultural institutes and this time he achieved success.

Production in Organic Farming

Sanjeev Kumar has been doing organic farming for the last 14 years and during this time he has produced many types of crops. He grows rice, mustard oil, wheat, moong, urad, lentils, and various types of seasonal vegetables like brinjal, bottle gourd, bitter gourd, ladyfinger, ridge gourd, mustard, spinach, fenugreek etc. He believes that the products grown through organic methods are not only good and of good quality, but also do not have any negative impact on the environment. Apart from this, the fertility of the soil is maintained and there is also protection from the ill effects of climate change.

Sanjeev Kumar says that due to non-use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in organic farming, the products are clean and healthy, which get good prices in the market. Thus, farming through organic methods not only protects the environment, but also benefits the farmers financially.

Special training and Certificate from Patanjali

Sanjeev Kumar took special organic farming master training from Patanjali, in which 16 other farmers also participated along with him. This training proved helpful in understanding better and effective methods of organic farming. Even today he is in touch with these farmers and keeps exchanging their experiences with each other. Some farmers are now farming in polyhouses, while other farmers are following different types of farming methods.

Sanjeev Kumar and his fellow farmers market their products together, due to which their crops are being sold at good prices. All the farmers are benefiting from this cooperation, and they are collectively able to give a strong identity to their products in the market. Sanjeev Kumar believes that with this type of partnership, farmers not only get better prices, but they can also increase the efficiency and profit of their farming.

Marketing and Earnings

Sanjeev Kumar says that he never faces any problem in selling his organic products. The reason behind this is his strong network, which he has built through years of hard work and trusted relationships. He says that whenever he has organic products ready, his network immediately delivers them to the customers, due to which the products get sold very quickly.

As a result, he earns up to Rs 17-18 lakh in a year. He believes that the right contacts and networking are extremely important for marketing, and this is why he has always taken care to deliver his products to the right customers. This not only strengthens his financial side, but also gives a reliable identity to his organic products.

Use of fertilizers in Organic Farming

Sanjeev Kumar uses natural and chemical-free fertilizers in his organic farming. He mainly uses animal dung, vermicompost and domestic manure, which nourishes his crops and maintains the fertility of the soil. Apart from this, he stays away from chemical fertilizers, so that his crops remain completely clean and healthy.

He has also installed solar panels for irrigation, which saves water and also reduces energy consumption. Using solar panels not only protects the environment but also reduces farming expenses, reducing his overall expenses. Thus, Sanjeev Kumar fulfills his responsibility towards the environment along with organic farming.

Reasons for adopting organic farming

Sanjeev Kumar believes that vegetables grown with chemical fertilizers and pesticides are like ‘poison’, which proves to be very harmful for people’s health. He says that consumption of these chemicals not only increases health problems, but it can also cause serious diseases in the long term. Therefore, he decided that by adopting organic farming, he will show the way to a healthy life not only for his family but also for the society.

Sanjeev Kumar’s aim is to promote organic farming, so that people’s health can improve and they can avoid diseases. He always inspires other farmers to adopt organic farming and advises to consume organic products. He believes that if people consume organic products, they can improve their health and also keep their families safe.

Awards and Subsidies

Sanjeev Kumar has been awarded the “IARI Innovative Farmer Award 2022” for his hard work and success in the field of organic farming. Apart from this, he has also received awards at many district levels, which reflect his hard work and innovation in farming.

Sanjeev Kumar has also received assistance under government schemes. He has received subsidy from PM Kisan Yojana, which has proved to be helpful in encouraging his farming even more. These awards and subsidies have boosted his confidence and inspired him to do more work in this field.

Message for other farmers

Sanjeev Kumar tells other farmers that organic farming is not only beneficial from an economic point of view, but it is also very beneficial for our health and environment. His aim is to explain the benefits of organic farming to as many farmers as possible, so that a healthy and disease-free society can be created. He believes that when more and more farmers adopt organic farming, not only their own health will improve, but the health of the overall society will also improve.

Sanjeev Kumar suggests that farmers who have not yet been able to take steps towards organic farming should at least start organic farming for their family. He says that it can start with a small step and go towards a big change. If a farmer has any problem in selling his products, he can contact Sanjeeb Kumar. He believes that with the right guidance and support, every farmer can achieve success.

Created an Agricultural Organization

Sanjeev Kumar has founded an organization called ‘Sarva Jan Sahyogita Farmer Producer Limited’ in 2023. He started this group with the aim of promoting collective effort among farmers and creating a strong network for better crop production. He has also received equity of Rs 4 lakh from the government, which is helping to further strengthen this organization.

Sanjeev Kumar says that he has formed a group of about 350 farmers, and through this organization, farming is being done on 1200 hectares of land under ITM (Integrated Technology Management) for the last 7 years. All the farmers are benefiting from this process, and they are producing crops for various companies. This collaboration helps farmers to sell their crops at better marketing and fair prices, which is also increasing their income.

Apart from this, seed production is also being done by Sanjeev Kumar’s organization, which is being supplied to other farmers. This initiative not only helps other farmers get quality seeds but also enables them to sell their crops at a fair price and earn a good income. Thus, Sanjeev Kumar’s organization has become a great example of cooperation, empowerment and economic prosperity among farmers.

Conclusion

Sanjeev Kumar’s story proves that if farmers show consistency and dedication in their efforts, they can not only improve their lives through organic farming but also bring a positive change to society and the environment. The organization and other initiatives started by him also prove that collective efforts and proper guidance among farmers can lead to great success in the agriculture sector.
