Sheep Farming: Feed Your Sheep Nutritious Diet for healthy Profit
Know about Sheep farming and its various ways to benefits
Sheep farming can be a good source of income in dry, mountainous, and desert areas where people do not have or have very little arable land. However, it is important to pay special attention to the diet of sheep in order to be successful in sheep farming. A nutritious diet is essential for the health and well-being of sheep, and it can help to improve production and income.
Sheep farming can be a good source of income for small or landless farmers, just like goat farming. However, they should choose good breeds of sheep and maintain them properly. Sheep are generally raised for wool, meat, and agricultural manure.
In order to obtain more production from sheep, it is important to pay special attention to their diet. In addition, sheep should be given a proper diet according to their age and weight so that they can gain weight quickly and obtain good-quality wool.
How to manage sheep diet?
After birth, the lamb should be given colostrum. This is very beneficial. The lambs should be kept with their mother for 3-5 days so that they can drink milk as needed. After that, 300 to 400 grams of milk should be given twice. Then, feed the lamb a homemade diet. To make the diet, mix 40 parts corn, 30 parts peanut cake, 10 parts wheat bran, 13 parts rice bran, 5 parts gram, 2 parts mineral mixer, and 1 part salt.
Add 20 grams of vitamins A, B, and D per quintal to this feed. It should be given with fodder at the rate of 15-200 grams per day after 3 weeks of birth.
Lambs that have stopped drinking milk
The diet of a weaned lamb depends on its age and weight. If the diet management of a good quality lamb is done properly, their weight increases at a rate of 200-250 grams per day. If the lambs graze in good pasture all day, it is sufficient to give them 300 grams of feed mixture daily in the evening. In 6 months, their weight will be 30-33 kg.
Female Lambs
If female lambs graze on good pasture all day and are given 300 grams of grain mixture daily in the evening, they will be healthy. Their development will also be appropriate for breeding. Farmers should keep Female and male lambs separately.
Female lambs capable of reproduction
It is very important to give sheep a balanced diet before and after the breeding season. Their production capacity depends on the balanced diet, mineral mixture, and grain they are given. Female sheep with fat-free bodies give birth to more lambs. To produce more eggs in sheep, they should be fed a protein-rich grain mixture and leaves of trees with pods.
Pregnant lambs
In the last one and a half months of pregnancy, sheep should be given 300 grams of protein-rich grain mixture daily for the nutrition of their body as well as the development of the lambs. Along with this, they should be allowed to graze in a good pasture for 8-10 hours. During this time, there should be no negligence in food, as it affects the health of the lamb.
Ewe or female Sheep
The milk production capacity of indigenous breed female sheep is very low. They produce only 500-800 grams of milk per day. In such a case, they cannot be left to graze on their own, but need supplementary feed. For this, 300 grams of grain mixture should be given along with the leaves of trees.
Ram or Adult Male Sheep
They should also be given 300 grams of grain mixture daily. In addition, they should be allowed to graze in a good pasture for 8-10 hours. If there is no good grass in the pasture, they can be given green fodder in the form of alfalfa, barley, oats, corn, etc.
If you are also thinking about sheep farming, you can start it on a small or large scale according to your convenience and available facilities. Good profit can be earned from commercial sheep farming. The invested amount is soon returned. The cost is also low, so small and marginal farmers can do it easily.
