Success Story of CFLD on Oilseed: Vijendra Singh brought revolution in farming with new variety of mustard
Vijendra Singh from being a simple farmer to bringing innovation in agriculture in the district is no less than an inspiration. After completing his high school from T.B.B Singh Inter College in Tundla, Firozabad in 1972, he started farming on a small land of 3.5 acres to support his family.
Vijendra Singh not only successfully grew crops in Rabi and Kharif seasons but also grew wheat, mustard, urad and millet crops. Along with this, he also started a small dairy business. With this dairy business, his dedication towards both his livelihood and the farming community was seen. He has written a new chapter of success with a new variety of mustard.
Vijender Singh wins award for urad crop
After years of struggle, his hard work started paying off. He won the first prize at the district level for his urad crop and earned the first prize at the state level for his exceptional millet production. He sells seeds of high-yielding varieties to earn income.
Vijender Singh’s commitment to helping his fellow farmers did not end with his success. He distributes free seeds of new mustard varieties to needy farmers in villages like Baghai, Dheerpura, Chatrai and Mohammadabad to promote the adoption of these varieties.
Training programme on new mustard variety (CFLD on Oilseed) with ICAR-KVK
In 2023, when Vijender Singh and other local farmers showed interest in improving oilseed production, a team of scientists from ICAR-KVK Firozabad visited the area. They interacted with the farmers and conducted a survey. Based on their results, ICAR-KVK organized a training program for the farmers on the new mustard variety.
Subsequently, they provided seeds of the new high-yielding mustard variety DRMR 1165-40 along with other necessary inputs for demonstration purposes. The crop was sown in the second week of September 2023 and harvested in the last week of April 2024.

After getting expert guidance, training and mustard seeds for demonstration purpose, the farmers sowed the crop with the new mustard variety in September 2023 and harvested it in April 2024. Which gave a great yield of 26.4 quintals per hectare. Along with this, there was a net profit of Rs 107,940 per hectare.
The introduction of this new high-yielding mustard variety revolutionized the farming methods in the village. Which left a lasting impression on the farmers of the village. Vijender Singh became a symbol of progress. He inspired farmers in Firozabad and beyond to adopt new agricultural techniques and new crop varieties.
His efforts have not only increased the oilseed production in the district but also increased its impact. Due to which the demand for new varieties of mustard is increasing.

Farmers now see him as their role model. Along with this, his success story is also spreading rapidly in the surrounding villages. His success started a new era in farming. His field experiment with a new variety of mustard was successful.

The Cluster Frontline Demonstration project was started from 2015-16 under NFSM and NMOOP.
