Vegetable Production: Dilip Kumar Singh became a successful entrepreneur in vegetable farming, got honours and awards
In the year 2004, Dilip Kumar Singh came in contact with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Rohtas, Bikramganj. The agricultural scientists here taught him the techniques of scientific production of many vegetables like tomato, ladyfinger, cauliflower, brinjal, potato, onion, chilli, gourd, bitter gourd and capsicum. This increased his production and income significantly.
Agriculture (Vegetable Entrepreneur) is not only a profession, but also a combination of science with dedication. Keeping this in mind, progressive farmer Dilip Kumar Singh changed his fate with his hard work and emerged as a successful entrepreneur in vegetable production.
Dilip Kumar Singh was born on 1 January 1972 in Mehdiganj village near Sasaram in Rohtas district of Bihar. His father Ram Vyas Singh was a simple farmer, and the financial condition of the family was extremely difficult. Dilip completed his studies till Inter, but due to financial problems he had to leave his studies midway. In the year 1993, he made vegetable production and sale his means of livelihood.
Start of Vegetable Production
Only buying and selling vegetables was not enough to support the family, so he decided to produce vegetables himself. He did not have any land of his own, so he started farming by leasing 2 acres of land in Mishirpur village of Sasaram block. With hard work and dedication, he successfully produced vegetables and got good income.
After this, he expanded his work and started cultivating vegetables on about 20 acres of land in villages like Kuraich, Dayalpur, Lalganj, Neema, Kota, Suma and Jaynagar.
Use Advanced Agricultural Technology In Vegetable Production
In 2004, Dilip Kumar Singh came in contact with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Rohtas, Bikramganj. The agricultural scientists here taught him the techniques of scientific production of many vegetables such as tomato, ladyfinger, cauliflower, brinjal, potato, onion, chilli, bottle gourd, bitter gourd and capsicum. This increased his production and income significantly.
Apart from this, he took training in the latest technologies from Indian Institute of Vegetable Research (IIVR), Varanasi and Department of Horticulture, BHU, Varanasi. He gained expertise in both organic and inorganic farming.
Expansion of Farming and Economic Success
With constant hard work and innovation, he started vegetable production on 100 acres of leased land. His annual income reached Rs 7-10 lakh. The agricultural system developed by him includes inter-cropping techniques, mixed cropping system, crop protection measures, effective labour management. With the expansion of his farming, he also employed 15-20 thousand labourers every year.
Honours and Awards
In view of his hard work and achievements, he was awarded national and state level awards many times. Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour, Bhagalpur, Rajendra Agricultural University, Pusa, Samastipur, KVK, Rohtas and Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi honoured him. He was awarded the “Jagjivan Ram Abhinav Kisan Award” by ICAR, New Delhi in 2012-13.
