To maintain the nutrition of crops and the quality of the soil, farmers are now emphasizing the use of organic manure instead of chemical fertilizers. Similarly, organic liquid is also being used for the growth of plants and pests, which is called vermiwash.

Repeated use of chemicals in the fields not only hurts crops, but also reduces the fertility of the soil, due to which farmers get less production. In today’s time when there is a shortage of farming and fertile land, it becomes very important to maintain a good crop.

Vermiwash is to help farmers in this. So let’s know what is vermiwash? How can it be prepared?

What is vermiwash?

This is a liquid organic fertilizer. It is prepared by cleaning fresh vermicompost and the body of earthworms. It contains hormones, nutrients and enzymes released by earthworms, which prove helpful in increasing crop production. It has disease prevention properties, as well as nutrients are found in soluble form, which are easily available to the plants. Vermiwash is a kind of organic tonic for plants, which contains nutrients like sulphur, calcium, iron, uric acid and fulvic acid in addition to potash, nitrogen, phosphorus.

Using vermiwash not only gives good quality produce, but it can also be used as a natural biopesticide. Farmers who are producing vermicompost can easily produce vermiwash if they want.

How to make vermiwash?

Plastic drum, cement tank or plastic bag used in earthworm compost unit can also be used to prepare vermiwash.

– First of all, take a plastic drum (30-50 liters) with a tap and place it on a stand.

– Now keeping the tap open, spread a 10-15 cm layer of small stones or pebbles in it.

– Spread a 10-15 cm layer of sand over it.

Put 30-40 cm of cow dung or rotten cow dung manure over it.

– Put a 2-3 cm thick layer of moist soil over it. Put 60-80 earthworms in it and cover it with straw.

– Now keep the entire unit in the shade and keep sprinkling water lightly for 10-15 days.

– After 16-20 days, the production of liquid vermiwash starts.

– In this way, 5-6 liters of vermiwash is obtained every week. Take it out by placing a vessel under the tap.

How to spray vermiwash?

After collecting vermiwash in a vessel, it is very easy to spray it. After spraying vermiwash, there is no need to use urea, DAP or any fertilizer. Mix one liter of vermiwash with 7-10 liters of water and spray it on the leaves in the evening.

– Mix one liter of vermiwash and one liter of cow urine in 10 liters of water and leave it overnight. Spray 50-60 liters of vermiwash in one hectare area for the prevention of various diseases.

– Vermiwash works as toning for horticultural crops like fruits and vegetables.

Benefits of vermiwash

– According to experts, spraying of vermiwash helps in germination of plants and good growth of crops.

– It protects crops from diseases and pests.

– Reduction in water cost and good farming.

– Soil fertility increases.

– Soil’s water absorbing capacity increases.

– Energy is saved by its use.

– The taste of the crop is good.

Vermiwash should never be sprayed directly on crops, always mix it in water and spray it as per the requirement. Vermiwash is more effective than chemical fertilizers and manure. Its use saves the cost of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, this helps farmers get more production at less cost.
