Vikas Chaudhary took pioneering steps towards innovation and conservation in agriculture
Vikas Chaudhary, a resident of Tarauri village in Karnal district of Haryana, has made a significant contribution in the field of new technologies and conservation agriculture in agriculture. Born on 1 October 1980, Vikas Chaudhary has worked on conservation agriculture for the last 15 years, so that farmers can get the benefits of better technology and low-cost farming. Apart from this, he has been doing seed production for ICAR (IARI) Karnal for the last 11 years and is also the director of FPO (Farmer Producer Organization) Progrovers Producer Company Limited.
Techniques and uses of conservation agriculture
Vikas believes that conservation agriculture can bring revolutionary changes in Indian farming. He said, “Conservation agriculture not only improves soil fertility, but also contributes significantly in water conservation and protecting the environment.” The techniques of conservation agriculture include methods such as minimum tillage, reuse of crop residues, and mulching. Vikas Chaudhary says that by using these techniques, the structure of the soil and its organic content can be maintained, which improves crop yield in future.
Role in ICAR and seed production
Vikas Chaudhary has been producing seeds for the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), Karnal for more than a decade. He said about this, “We produce quality seeds, which are later delivered to the farmers through ICAR and agricultural universities. The aim of our seed production is to provide advanced and quality seeds to the farmers, which can increase their production capacity.”
Communication and training with farmers
Vikas Chaudhary regularly organizes dialogue and training workshops with local farmers. According to him, “By teaching the techniques of conservation agriculture and seed production to farmers, they can farm better and improve their income.” He told that through his FPO (Progrovers Producer Company Limited), he has connected more than 1000 farmers, who are improving farming through modern techniques.
Honors and achievements
In view of Vikas Chaudhary’s contribution, he has been honored with more than 20 awards including the Haryana Krishi Ratna Award. These include awards given by ICAR, Haryana and Punjab State Agriculture Departments, Haryana Agricultural University and Krishi Vigyan Kendras. He says, “These honors are a matter of pride for me, but the real satisfaction comes when farmers benefit from our efforts.”
Benefit of government schemes
Vikas has taken advantage of government schemes to upgrade his agricultural activities. He has received subsidy on various agricultural equipment, which has reduced the cost of his farming and increased productivity. He says that taking advantage of the subsidy schemes given by the government makes it easier for farmers to access technical means.
Future of conservation agriculture and Vikas Chaudhary’s plans
Vikas Chaudhary believes that in the coming times, conservation agriculture will become an important part of Indian agriculture. For this, he is constantly trying to get more and more farmers to adopt this technology. His goal is to provide high quality seeds, latest agricultural equipment and technical knowledge to farmers through his FPO, so that Indian agriculture can get a new direction and vision. His efforts will be helpful in improving farming methods not only at the local level but also at the national level.
The contribution that Vikas Chaudhary has made in the field of conservation agriculture and seed production is an inspiration for other farmers. His hard work and eagerness to adopt new techniques have given a new perspective to the farmers of Haryana.
