Pink Taiwan guava: Farmers are constantly doing new experiments in farming. Farmers are doing cultivation of fruits and trees along with traditional farming. Nowadays, there is a demand for Taiwan variety i.e. pink guava in guava cultivation among the farmers of the country. In this episode, Ashish Vijayvargiya, a resident of Marmi village of Chittorgarh district of Rajasthan, runs a guava nursery.

He is delivering pink guava variety to farmers in many parts of the country from his nursery. Let us know about the important things related to pink guava cultivation.

How did the guava nursery start?

Ashish from Chittorgarh, Rajasthan told that he started the nursery in 2014. In this nursery, they work on improved varieties of guava. Guava is the most sold fruit in the current situation. It can be cultivated in any area. About 3500 farmers from different parts of India are associated with his nursery. Ashish has planted fruit plants like plum, guava, mango, custard apple, dragon fruit, sapota and seasonal orange in his nursery.

Which improved varieties of guava are available in the nursery?

Ashish told that many improved varieties of guava are available in the market. He started the nursery with L 49, Barf Ka Khan in his nursery. Currently, Taiwan Pink and Red Diamond plants are available in his nursery. Taiwan Pink is a fruit that bears fruits very quickly. In this variety, farmers get fruits throughout the year. This gives good income to the farmer. Currently, Red Diamond is the most sold in the market. Guava can be cultivated in every soil.

How to identify Taiwan Pink improved variety?

The Taiwan Pink variety of guava is one to one and a half feet tall. In this, farmers should take a plant of clone variety. This plant gives more production in less spread. The variety of guava can be identified by looking at the leaves. The Taiwan variety of plant bears fruit, but it takes up to 1 year for the plant to grow completely.

Diseases in guava plant

Ashish told that if the farmer is not able to control pests and diseases. Due to this, farmers have to suffer losses. There are three to four types of diseases in guava variety. It is necessary to solve those diseases. If we talk about the first disease, it is nematode. The symptom of this disease is that a knot is formed in the root. This stops the growth of the plant. For its treatment, Velum Prime, Copper Oxychloride is available. The farmer should treat nematodes with these once a year. The second disease in guava is mealybug. For this, farmers can treat it in a traditional way. Farmers should spray a solution of soap or detergent powder. The third disease is fruit fly in guava. This disease occurs when the tree starts bearing fruits. For this, farmers should use insecticides like Cyphermethin, Imeda.

Symptoms of diseases in guava plant

In nematode disease, the leaf starts turning black from the edge. Along with this, the growth of the plant stops. To find this out, the farmer should dig the root of the plant and check it. To identify mealybug, a white wax-like substance sticks to the leaves and stem of the plant. Fruit fly is exactly like a mosquito. It comes from the smell of the fruit. There is no particular disease in Taiwan Pink variety.

What things should be kept in mind while taking the plant from the nursery?

When farmers are buying guava plant from the nursery, some things should be kept in mind during that time. Like whether the leaves are getting any disease or the leaves are not turning yellow. If the leaves below the plant are yellow, then there is a lack of nitrogen. If it is above, then there is a lack of micro neutrons in the leaves. The farmer should keep these things in mind while taking the plant. Guava plant should be protected from heat wave and cold wave. To avoid cold wave, use sulfur or do light irrigation.

How to plant guava plant in the field?

To plant guava plant, farmers have to first prepare their net house. After taking the plant from the nursery, the plant should be kept in your shade house for one to two days. Until proper transplantation is done in the field. Before planting the plant, dig a pit of 1.5 x 1.5. The distance should be kept at least 6 x 6. While transplanting, five to ten kilograms of local fertilizer should be added to a plant. If there is a termite problem, then regent and forant can be added at the time of transplantation. Make a solution of single super phosphate and DAP and put 200 to 300 grams in a pit.

What is the cost and profit in guava farming?

A farmer can plant 650 to 750 plants in one acre. It also depends on the distance at which the farmer wants to plant the plants. A guava plant costs 30 to 40 rupees per plant. Then it also depends on market fluctuations. After this, the cost of planting a plant is 10 rupees. Along with this, the cost of prestige comes to 10 rupees per year. 

Talking about profit, one plant gives 50 kg to one quintal of fruit. Guava is sold in the market from Rs 35 per kg to Rs 100 per kg. Red Diamond is sold at Rs 80 per kg. Taiwan Pink is sold from Rs 30 to Rs 60 per kg. These are wholesale prices.

When should irrigation be done in guava cultivation?

Irrigation should be done in guava field keeping in mind the climate, soil and height of the plant. If the farmer is doing drip irrigation, then it should be done once in two to three days. If the farmer is doing flood irrigation, then irrigation should be done once a week. Irrigation of plants also depends on the weather.

How can farmers create a market for guava?

Ashish says that there is a fruit market at every district level. The farmer can sell his produce there. The highest rate of guava is obtained in Azadpur Mandi of Delhi.
