India generates enormous quantities of agricultural biomass every year, much of which remains underutilised.

States such as Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu could encourage village-level biomass collection centres linked with packaging manufacturers. Support from FPOs, agri-startups, incubation centres and government programmes could help farmers convert crop residue into a regular income stream instead of treating it as waste.
