Krishna Kumar Yadav’s New direction to farming with new technology through organic manure

0

Krishna Kumar Yadav, a resident of Pataudi village in Gurugram district of Haryana, has not only increased his income but also set an example in the field of agriculture by adopting new techniques for agriculture on his 6-10 acres of land, but has also set an example in the field of agriculture. His commitment to the environment through organic farming and vermicompost has made him an inspiration among other farmers of the village and the state.

Use of Vermicompost: The beginning of a green revolution

Krishna Kumar moved away from traditional farming and adopted the use of vermicompost and organic manure. He says:

“The fertility of the soil was decreasing over time due to chemical fertilizers. Vermicompost not only maintains soil health, but also improves the quality of the crop.”

His land produces 15-20 tonnes of vermicompost annually, which he sells in the local market. The use of vermicompost has reduced crop costs by 30% and increased production by 20%.

Start of new farmer training centre

Krishna Kumar has also started a small training centre on his farm, where he trains farmers about vermicompost and organic farming techniques. He has trained more than 500 farmers so far.

“Making agriculture successful is possible only when we are ready to adopt and share new techniques,” he says.

Diversified farming model

Krishna Kumar’s farming is not limited to organic manure only. He cultivates wheat, mustard, and vegetables on his land, as well as seasonal fruits like guava, papaya, and mango. His crops are sold not only in local markets, but are also sometimes delivered to large retail stores and platforms selling organic products.

The advantage of his crop diversification is that in case of failure of one crop, the other crop keeps his income balanced. Krishna says:

“Diversified farming has not only kept my income stable but also helped maintain the fertility of my land. Diversified farming with organic techniques is also beneficial for the environment.”

In addition, he has also started using polyhouse technology in his farming, which allows him to produce vegetables and fruits throughout the year. This model helps him to continuously provide fresh produce to the market.

He has also learnt to make better use of crop residues. He uses the residue left after harvesting mustard and wheat to make vermicompost, which reduces costs and increases profits. This model has helped him reach an annual income of Rs 41-50 lakh, and he is working towards improving it further.

Market success

Krishna Kumar has started direct marketing of his produce. He sells through local supermarkets and online platforms in view of the growing demand for organic products. He says:

“Customers are now preferring organic products. We just have to ensure the right quality and timely delivery.”

They have also focused on their branding and launched a label called “Green Farm Products”, which has gained credibility among local consumers. Apart from this, they also sell their produce in local weekly markets, where customers buy the produce directly from them.

Krishan Kumar says,

“I noticed that farmers do not get the right price for their produce due to middlemen in the market. So I started selling directly, which not only gave me a fair profit, but also provided customers with fresh and organic produce at a fair price.”

Talking about the success on online platforms, he says,

“We initially fulfilled small orders, but now we have direct contact with big retailers and customers. Online sales have opened the way for our products to reach far-flung areas.”

Currently, the demand for their products is increasing in Gurugram and Delhi as well as other metro cities. Their customers respond positively to the quality and freshness of organic produce, due to which their customer base is growing rapidly.

Krishna Kumar believes that with marketing strategies and technical support, farmers can turn their produce into a brand. He also inspires other farmers to move away from traditional methods and adopt a direct-to-consumer model and increase their profits.

Government support and schemes

Krishan Kumar has not yet availed any government scheme, but he says:

“The government should provide subsidies and market access for vermicompost and organic farming. This will help farmers improve their technology and production.”

Future plans

Krishan Kumar aims to connect more and more farmers of Haryana to organic farming. Along with this, he wants to increase his vermicompost production and market it in other districts of the state.

Conclusion

The story of Krishna Kumar Yadav is not only about the success of a farmer but also about a responsible approach towards the environment. His hard work, use of new techniques and his passion for organic farming have become a source of inspiration for other farmers. He believes that if farmers adopt new technologies, they can not only increase their income but also keep the soil and environment healthy.
