Anil Thadani, a resident of Jaipur, who has become a farmer from an assistant professor, is constantly engaged in expanding his nursery business (Plant Nursery Business) and more than 2500 farmers have joined him.

He discussed in detail with Kisan of India correspondent Akshay Dubey about how he is doing nursery business (Plant Nursery Business) and how he is also developing new varieties.

Development of New Varieties

Anil Thadani believes in developing new and advanced technology and hence he always keeps experimenting with new plants. There are many such plants in his nursery which he has kept not for sale, but for experiment. He tells that he has many varieties of plants which are not to be sold, but have been kept for experiment such as dragon fruit, euphorbia, exzora, he first planted the exzora outside after cutting it and then is developing it in an indoor place. He has many different varieties of plants, for example, he has grown a special variety of tomato that came from the US and tastes like wine.

Now he is developing this variety and seeing if its seeds can be made. He has tagged different varieties of plants and is growing many new things on a trial basis.

One such new variety is lemon grass, about which he says that he made tea from it and liked its taste very much, so now he is developing this variety.

Not only this, he is developing a plant that looks like Rudraksha, which is called Bhadraaksha, it looks like Rudraksha but is not worshipped.

22 Types of Adenium

Anil Thadani’s nursery also has plants of many unique flowers. He tells that he has 22 varieties of Adenium, all are hybrid and most of them have flowers of different colors. He wants to see the success rate of these plants by grafting them on the local Adenium. Then he will do 2-3 grafting on a single plant and see if flowers of different colors are coming in it.

Division of Plants According to Water

People of places where there is water shortage can adopt Anil Thadani’s method. He says that he has kept the plants separately according to their water requirement. For example, the plants that need 10 liters of water a day have been planted together and those that need 10 liters a week have been planted together. Also, polythene has been put under the plants because there is a shortage of water, so when water is poured with polythene, only the plant drinks the water and not the soil. Apart from this, when it rains, it is broken from the middle and a drain is made through which the extra water is taken out and collected.

Collection of Native Plants

Anil Thadani has a huge collection of plants which includes a lot of native plants, such as rose, red-pink hibiscus, lemon grass, aloe vera of 2-3 types (red, green, bitter one from which medicine is made, stevia etc. Apart from this, he also has many native flower plants like amla, gulmohar, evergreen, seasonal flower plants etc.

He tells that his nursery also has cassava (a type of plant), which is used to make sago. Apart from this, he is also developing many types of medicine plants.

Water Plants

Anil’s nursery also has many water plants, such as azolla which is used as animal feed, water cabbage etc. He tells that water cabbage catches algae inside its roots and when the plant is taken out, the algae also comes out. He also puts fish in the pond. Also, after the lotus flower blooms, the remaining part of the plant is also put in water, which helps in the growth of new plants.

Anil says that if someone wants to grow lotus, then make a small pond and put smooth black soil in it and mix manure in it, then add rock phosphate to it, after that add bone meal and leave it for a day. Then put lotus bulb in it. He says that when the heat increases, the flowers will start blooming. Anil says that he has many varieties of lotus whose price ranges from 300 to 2500 rupees.

Which Plants Can Be Grown Using Hydroponic Technology? 

Anil also gives training in hydroponic farming, because this technique is very useful in urban areas where there is a shortage of space. But this technique has its own limitations, because many types of plants cannot be grown in it.

Anil says that lettuce, tomato, chilli, gourd, brinjal, cucumber, strawberry, coriander, spinach, fenugreek (all leafy vegetables can be grown) can be easily grown in it. As far as fruits are concerned, only cherry and strawberry can be grown. Research is still going on about other plants.

Organic Medicines

To ensure that the plants grow well and do not get any kind of disease, Anil has also built a lab near his nursery, in which he has prepared many types of organic medicines. He makes new medicines and tests them and if it has a good effect on the plants, then he sells them outside.

He has also made a medicine to eliminate the problem of fungus in plants. Anil says that organic medicines are fully effective only when they are used at the right time, that is, if the medicine is applied at the beginning of a disease, it will work, not when it is used after the disease has spread throughout the plant. Anil says that it is very important for farmers to first correctly identify the problem of the plants, only then they will be able to use the right medicine.

How To Balance A Nursery Business

Anil says that for a good nursery business, it is very important that your customers are right and you have good access to the market. Also, you will have to make new things and convey information to people through social media, only then people will come to you. This is a decorative business, so the trend will have to be changed every time and new varieties of plants will have to be grown.

Usually this business goes down in summer, so maintenance increases in summer. Whereas maximum number of plants should be collected in the rain, because at this time the plant is easily planted.
