Emerging as an inspiration in the field of organic farming, Ruby Pareek, a resident of Lalsot village in Dausa district, with her hard work and determination not only made her land fertile but also inspired thousands of women to take up organic farming. Her journey tells the story of struggle, innovation and social change.

Start of organic farming

Ruby Pareek moved towards organic farming in 2012. She observed that chemical farming was not only destroying the fertility of the soil but also having a negative impact on health and the environment. Initially, she started farming with organic methods on her 1-5 acres of land. This decision was shocking for her family and people around her. But Ruby made her thinking clear:

“A healthy society cannot be imagined without poison-free farming.”

She started using organic products like vermicompost, Jeevamrit, Dhanjeevamrit and Jaivik Rakshak. Initially, low production and market uncertainty troubled her, but her hard work paid off.

Empowering women

Ruby Pareek not only practiced organic farming herself, but also connected women around her by sharing her experiences. So far, she has trained more than 22,000 women in organic farming. The Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) established by her has provided a platform to small farmers where they can increase their yield by adopting natural farming techniques.

She has also set up a seed bank library, where farmers can get traditional and organic seeds. This effort has proved to be a boon for farmers.

Innovation and technical support

Ruby made several innovations on her farm. She uses modern technologies like vermi hatchery unit, solar pump and drip irrigation. To promote organic farming, she started cultivating medicinal and forestry plants.

“Government schemes and technical support made our work even easier,” she says.

The guidance she received from Krishi Vigyan Kendra and agricultural universities gave a new direction to her efforts.

Story of struggle and success

Ruby faced many challenges in her journey. Not only were there financial difficulties in adopting organic farming, but it was also difficult to change the mindset of the society. She says:

“Initially people considered organic farming a joke. But when our produce gave better results, people’s attitude changed.”

She proved that organic farming can also be profitable. Today her annual income is Rs 11-20 lakh, which shows that every difficulty can be overcome with hard work and dedication.

Honours and achievements

Ruby Pareek’s innovations and efforts have been appreciated with many national and state level awards. Some of the prominent ones are:

• State Level Award by Rajasthan Government (2016)

Mahindra Samridhi Regional Award (2017)

National Dharti Mitra Award (2021)

Innovation Farmers National Award (2022)

• Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Krishi Gaurav Award (2024)

These awards have strengthened her identity at the national and international level.

Contribution to farmers and society

Ruby Pareek strived to bring about a big change in the society by sharing her knowledge and experience. She not only made women economically self-reliant, but also highlighted the importance of organic farming. She teaches farmers the tricks of organic farming through community meetings and workshops.

“Organic farming is not just a method, but a philosophy of life,” she says.

Benefiting from govt schemes

Ruby also took full advantage of government schemes. She received support for a vermi hatchery unit, solar pump and cultivation of medicinal plants. These schemes further empower her efforts.

“Government support helped us expand our efforts,” she adds.

Future plans

Ruby dreams of every farmer taking up organic farming. She wants women and farmers to become self-reliant through the training she provides. Her next step is to take organic products to national and international markets. She also wants to create a large organic producer organisation that will help farmers get better markets and fair prices. She aims to promote environmental protection and economic sustainability through organic farming.
