Samman 2024 : The inspiring story of Anand Mani Bhatt, who became the guardian of natural farming
Anand Mani Bhatt, who lives in the small village of Lachauna in Bhimtal in Nainital district of Uttarakhand, has given a new direction to natural and organic farming. Born in 1981, Anand Mani started farming in 2013 and today he has become a source of inspiration for the farmers of his area. The organic farming methods adopted by him are not only preserving the environment, but are also beneficial for human health.
Farming journey: From beginning to success
Anand Mani Bhatt started organic farming in 2013. He believes that excessive use of chemical farming has made our plate poisonous. Anand adopted techniques like cow dung manure, Jeevamrit, and vermicompost in his fields. He says:
“If we free our farming from chemical fertilizers, not only will our land become fertile, but purity will also remain in our food.”
Wheat, pulses, vegetables and fruits are produced in his farming. Every product of his farm is organic, which people buy readily in the market.
Concern over the ill-effects of chemical farming
Anand Mani understood from his experience that chemical farming not only reduces the fertility of the land, but it also poses a threat to human health. He says,
“Diseases like diabetes, cancer and heart attack are increasing due to the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. The only way to avoid these is organic and natural farming.”
Through organic farming, Anand Mani tried to explain to people how important chemical-free food is for a healthy life.
Benefit of government schemes
Anand Mani Bhatt adopted advanced techniques in his fields by taking advantage of government schemes. He used drip and sprinkler irrigation method under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana.
He says:
“By using the government schemes properly, we can reduce our costs and get more production. My fields have benefited from these schemes.”
Natural Farming Techniques
Anand Mani’s farms are a mix of modern and traditional techniques of natural farming. He used methods like vermicompost, cow dung manure, and green manure.
He believes that it is important to adopt organic methods to keep the farms fertile.
“Organic farming maintains the fertility of the soil and also increases the quality of the crop. Our farms are now more fertile than before,” he said.
Community Involvement and Awareness
Anand Mani organised several workshops to promote organic farming in his area. He taught small farmers about organic farming techniques and motivated them.
