Many new techniques are now being used in Strawberry Farming. The sweet and sour taste of strawberries is liked not only by children but also by adults. Strawberries are generally cultivated in colder regions. In our country, strawberries are produced on a large scale in many places like Nainital, Dehradun, Himachal Pradesh, Mahabaleshwar, Nilgiris, and Darjeeling.

Mahabaleshwar’s strawberry is famous for its sweet taste and beautiful red color. Bashir Dange, a farmer living 4 kilometers from Mahabaleshwar, has grown strawberries for 40 years. Thanks to new technology, he is producing more strawberries in less space. Basheer discussed his new technique in detail with Sachin Sharma, correspondent of Kisan of India.

Growing strawberries from the cockpit

Mahabaleshwar, a small hill station in Maharashtra, is famous for its pleasant weather, natural beauty, and delicious strawberries. Strawberry producer farmer Sachin Dange says that mainly strawberries are cultivated in Mahabaleshwar. Other crops are scarce here. To a lesser extent, only vegetables are cultivated.

He says he has prepared a three-layer structure and is growing strawberries by adding cockpits and getting good production in less space due to this. He also cultivates strawberries in the open field. Basheer says he has been doing strawberry farming for generations. They believe that technology has now changed compared to earlier, and more profit can be earned with less effort.

How many days for harvest

Basheer says that a month after planting a strawberry plant, flowers start coming into it, and after one and a half to two months, it starts bearing fruits. Its crop is completely ready within 6 months. Their plants need good care.

Sunlight is also necessary for the tremendous growth of plants. They say that the soil of Mahabaleshwar is red and the water here is also sweet. Apart from this, the climate here is also best for the cultivation of strawberries. That’s why Mahabaleshwar’s strawberries are red and sweet. This is the reason why their demand is high.

Open field farming

Basheer says that open field strawberry cultivation costs less and can take longer to harvest. In this, production can also be obtained for 8 months and irrigation is also required only once. On the contrary, the cost of strawberry production in three layer structure is also high and the crop can be obtained only for 6 months. Not only this, irrigation also has to be done twice.

He says that farmers can do strawberry cultivation on a large scale by taking loans. Apart from this, by getting strawberry farming insured, farmers can also avoid losses due to it.
