The total trout production in Himachal Pradesh was 14.02 metric tonnes in the year 2023-24. Its production is estimated to reach 1600 metric tonnes in the financial year 2024-25. In the private sector too, 9 hatcheries in Mandi and Sirmaur districts have collectively set a target of producing 20 lakh eyed eggs.

The fisheries sector across India has made tremendous progress in the last 10 years. An investment of Rs 38,572 crore was made by the government, which made possible a record fish production of 184.02 lakh tonnes. Along with this, seafood exports worth Rs 60,523.89 crore took this sector to new heights.
