The Uttar Pradesh government has successfully trained over 20 lakh farmers through its latest Kisan Pathshala program. The state announced on Wednesday that farmers across UP received regular training on modern farming methods, government schemes, and new agricultural innovations through this initiative.
This year, the training program followed the theme ‘Kheti Ki Baat Khet Par’ (Farm Talk on the Field). The program focused on bringing agricultural education directly to farmers in their villages and fields.
Record Participation in Latest Session
Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi shared that Kisan Pathshala 8.0 Rabi (2025-26) recorded impressive participation numbers. A total of 20.15 lakh farmers joined the training sessions during the Rabi season. Among these participants, 12.62 lakh were male farmers and 7.53 lakh were female farmers.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated Kisan Pathshala 8.0 on December 12 from Padma Shri farmer Ramsaran Verma’s village in Daulatpur, Barabanki. The event highlighted the government’s commitment to practical, field-based farmer education.
What is Kisan Pathshala?
Kisan Pathshala is a government training program launched in Uttar Pradesh in December 2017. The program aims to educate farmers about modern farming techniques and help double their income. The state government organizes regular training sessions for farmers at the village level to teach them about new agricultural methods, government schemes, and innovations in farming.
The main goal of this program is to make farmers self-reliant by providing them with practical knowledge. Farmers learn about natural farming, crop management, soil health, crop protection, and ways to increase their income. The program brings education directly to the farmers’ fields instead of making them travel to distant locations.
Wide Network of Training Centers
The state organized these training sessions at multiple locations to ensure maximum reach. The sessions took place at Krishi Vigyan Kendras (agricultural science centers), PACS societies, and gram panchayat offices. Progressive farmers also hosted training sessions at their farms.
The program covered 21,000 gram panchayats across the entire state. This wide network helped the government reach farmers in both rural and remote areas. The training covered various topics including modern farming techniques, natural farming methods, and crop management practices.
How Does Kisan Pathshala Work?
The program works in a simple and farmer-friendly way. The state government selects 10 to 12 lakh farmers every year at the Nyaya Panchayat level for training. These training sessions take place at multiple convenient locations including:
- Krishi Vigyan Kendras (agricultural science centers)
- PACS societies
- Gram Panchayat secretariats
- Progressive farmers’ fields
- Village-level centers
Agricultural experts and scientists from universities and research institutions conduct these training sessions. They share information about new crop varieties, modern equipment, organic farming methods, and government welfare schemes. Farmers can ask questions and get practical solutions to their farming problems.
The training covers important topics like pest control, water management, fertilizer use, and market information. Farmers also learn about available subsidies and how to access government support for purchasing equipment or seeds.
How to Join Kisan Pathshala
Farmers in Uttar Pradesh can participate in Kisan Pathshala in several ways:
Through Local Officials: Farmers can contact their local agriculture officers, Gram Panchayat officials, or Block Development Officers. These officials organize training sessions at the village level and inform farmers about upcoming programs.
During Seasonal Programs: The government organizes special training sessions during Kharif and Rabi seasons. Farmers can attend these sessions in their nearby gram panchayats.
Progressive Farmer Networks: Many training sessions happen at the farms of progressive farmers in each area. Farmers can join these practical training sessions by contacting local agricultural departments.
Krishi Vigyan Kendras: Farmers can visit their nearest Krishi Vigyan Kendra and register for upcoming training programs. These centers regularly conduct Kisan Pathshala sessions.
The participation in Kisan Pathshala is free of cost. Farmers do not need to submit any application fee or fill complex forms. The program aims to reach maximum farmers across all 21,000 gram panchayats in the state.
Comprehensive Training Coverage
Farmers learned about schemes from the agriculture department and allied departments. They also gained knowledge about new innovations developed at agricultural universities, research institutions, and Krishi Vigyan Kendras.
The training sessions included information on crop protection methods, soil health management, horticulture practices, and new agricultural technologies. Farmers received guidance on how to reduce farming costs while increasing their yields and income.
Seven Years of Success
According to the agriculture department, Kisan Pathshala has trained more than 2 crore farmers since its launch in 2017-18. This makes it one of the largest farmer education programs in the country.
The main goal of Kisan Pathshala remains clear: educate farmers about modern farming practices and help double their income. The initiative aims to provide practical training so farmers can achieve better yields at lower costs and become self-reliant.
Focus on Practical Learning
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of soil health during the program, saying agricultural practices should prioritize the earth’s well-being. The program aligns with the national vision of natural farming, which focuses on reducing input costs and boosting crop production.
The government provides farmers with timely access to essential resources including quality seeds, fertilizers, and irrigation support. These efforts help farmers adopt innovative practices and improve their farming methods.
Impact on State Agriculture
Uttar Pradesh has shown remarkable agricultural growth in recent years. The state accounts for 11 percent of the country’s cultivable land and contributes 21 percent to national food grain supply. The agricultural growth rate has increased significantly, showing the positive impact of farmer training programs.
The Kisan Pathshala model gives farmers free, practical agricultural training at the village level. This approach helps bridge the gap between traditional knowledge and scientific farming practices. Farmers can now make better decisions about crop selection, resource management, and farming techniques.
Looking Forward
The success of Kisan Pathshala 8.0 shows the government’s strong commitment to farmer welfare and agricultural development. By bringing training directly to farmers’ doorsteps and fields, the program makes agricultural education accessible to everyone.
The state continues to work on strengthening farmer support through various measures including soil health cards, crop insurance, proper sugarcane payments, and improved storage facilities. These combined efforts aim to make farming more profitable, sustainable, and resilient for the future.
