Weed control | Weeds grow more during the Kharif season, so crops planted at this time need special care. Pests and diseases as well as weeds can cause crop losses up to 45 percent, so their proper management is very important. But for this, first of all, it is necessary for the farmers to have knowledge about weeds. The weeds growing in the Kharif season are divided into three categories. Some methods have been suggested by ICAR regarding weed management in Kharif crops. Know about those methods.

Broad-leaved Weeds – Their leaves are broad. These are dicotyledonous plants. These include- white cock, crow, wild jute, wild tobacco, etc.

Weeds with thin leaves – These are also called weeds of the grass class. The leaves of the plants of this class are thin and long like- swa, dub grass, etc.

Moth class weeds – The leaves of this class of weeds are long and the stem is three-edged and hard. Knots are found in their roots – like Motha.

Chemical weed control in various crops

Rice

  • To control narrow and broad leaf weeds, 150-250 gm Oxyflurfen per hectare should be applied 3 days after sowing.
  • To control narrow leaf weeds, apply Pretilachlor @750 g per hectare 3 days after sowing or 3-7 days after transplanting.
  • For the control of all three types of weeds, use Bensulfuron + Pretilachlor at the rate of 660 grams per hectare after 0 to 3 days of transplanting.
  • For control of broad leaf and broadleaf weeds, apply Pyrazosulfuron @25 gm/ha 0 to 5 days after sowing or 8-10 days after transplanting.

Maize

  • To control broad and narrow leaf weeds, apply Atrazine @1000 gm per hectare 3 days after sowing.
  • Apply 60-80 gm Halosulfuron per hectare after 20-25 days of sowing to control moth-class weeds.
  • To control broad and narrow leaf weeds, apply Tomerazone @25-33 gm/ha 15-20 days after sowing.
  • To control all three types of weeds, use Tembotrivon @120 gm per hectare.

Urad and Moong Dal

  • Use Pendimethalin @1000 gm per hectare for 1 to 3 days after sowing to control broad-leaf weeds.
  • For control of narrow leaf weeds, use Quezlofop-ethyl @50 gm per hectare 15-20 days after sowing.
  • To control weeds with broad and some narrow leaves, apply Imazethapyr @100 gm 15-20 days after sowing.

Arhar

  • To control weeds with narrow leaves and a few broad leaves growing between pigeon pea plants, apply Pendimethalin @700 gm per hectare after 3 days of sowing.
  • To control weeds with thin leaves, apply Quezalofop-ethyl @50 gm per hectare 15-20 days after sowing.
  • For the control of broad and some narrow-leafed weeds, apply Imazethapyr @100 gm 15-20 days after sowing.

Soybean

  • To control broad and thin leaf weeds, apply Metribuzin @350-525 gm per hectare after 3 days of sowing.
  • To control some narrow and broad leaf weeds, apply Oxadizone @500 gm/ha for 1 to 3 days after sowing.
  • To control broad and narrow leaf weeds, apply Imazethapyr @100 gm per hectare 20-25 days after sowing.
  • To control the weeds with thin leaves, apply Quezalofof-ethyl @50 gm per hectare 20-25 days after sowing.

Groundnut

  • To control broad and narrow-leafed weeds, apply Oxyfluorophen @250-300 gm per hectare after 3 days of sowing.
  • To control some broad and narrow-leafed weeds, apply Imazethapyr @100 gm per hectare 15-20 days after sowing.
  • To control the weeds with thin leaves, apply Quezalofof-ethyl @50 gm per hectare 20-25 days after sowing.

Damage caused by Weeds

  • Due to weeds, the crop does not get the right amount of air and water, due to which the crop starts getting spoiled.
  • Due to weeds, the risk of insects and diseases in the crop increases.
  • The quality of the crop also deteriorates and the price of the crop is not available in the market.
  • Some weeds are also harmful due to which pollution increases in the river and ponds.
  • Because of this, irrigation and drainage of the crop is not done properly.
