Farmers can now access agricultural experts, government schemes and real-time farm advisories through a single digital platform called Kisan Sarathi. Developed jointly by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the platform is designed to make scientific advice and government services easily available through multiple channels, including WhatsApp, a mobile app, a web portal, Common Service Centres and Kisan Call Centres.
The platform integrates scientific recommendations developed by ICAR with information on government programmes, weather forecasts and market prices. Officials say the objective is to bridge the gap between agricultural research and farmers by providing timely and region-specific advisory services.
Kisan Sarathi allows farmers to seek advice on crops, horticulture, livestock, fisheries and allied sectors from experts associated with Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) and agricultural institutions.
Farmers can submit queries in their local language and receive recommendations based on their crop, location and farming conditions. The platform also provides weather forecasts, market information and technical guidance throughout the crop cycle.
Unlike conventional advisory systems, the platform supports two-way communication, enabling farmers to interact directly with agricultural experts whenever they need technical assistance.
Access to More Than 610 Schemes
One of the biggest features of Kisan Sarathi is its integrated government scheme database.
As of June 2026, the platform provides information on more than 610 Central and State government schemes, including over 100 Central schemes. Farmers can search for programmes related to PM-KISAN, crop insurance, Kisan Credit Card, Soil Health Card, agricultural mechanisation, irrigation and agricultural infrastructure based on their eligibility.
Officials say this reduces the need for farmers to visit multiple offices or websites to understand different government programmes.
The government has designed Kisan Sarathi so that both smartphone and non-smartphone users can benefit.
Farmers can access the service through WhatsApp, the mobile application, the web portal, Common Service Centres, Kisan Call Centres and voice-based services. This multi-channel approach is intended to improve digital inclusion, particularly in rural areas where internet access and smartphone use vary widely.
The platform currently supports multiple Indian languages, allowing farmers to receive technical advice in a language they understand.
Strengthening Digital Agriculture
Digital advisory services are becoming an important part of Indian agriculture as governments increasingly use technology to improve extension services.
Officials believe Kisan Sarathi will strengthen the connection between scientists and farmers while making government schemes easier to access. By bringing expert advice, weather information, market intelligence and public welfare programmes onto one platform, the initiative aims to improve farm decision-making and support higher agricultural productivity across the country.
