Livestock Farmers Can Get Up to ₹2 Lakh Loan Under Kisan Credit Card

0

Livestock farmers across India can now benefit from the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme, which provides easy access to institutional credit for animal husbandry activities. Eligible farmers involved in dairy, goat rearing, sheep farming, poultry, piggery and fisheries can obtain collateral-free loans of up to ₹2 lakh to meet their working capital requirements.

The scheme aims to improve access to affordable credit, helping livestock farmers invest in feed, medicines, breeding, housing and other essential inputs without depending on informal lenders.

Animal husbandry requires regular investment throughout the year. Farmers need funds for purchasing feed, maintaining sheds, veterinary treatment, vaccination and other operational expenses.

The Kisan Credit Card provides flexible credit that can be used for these activities. The loan helps farmers manage cash flow while ensuring uninterrupted care for livestock, which is essential for maintaining milk production and animal health.

Officials say easier access to institutional credit can reduce financial stress and encourage farmers to expand their livestock enterprises.

Who Can Apply?

The KCC facility is available to farmers engaged in various livestock-related activities, including dairy farming, goat farming, sheep rearing, poultry and piggery. Eligible beneficiaries include individual farmers, joint borrowers, self-help groups and farmer producer organisations that meet the prescribed criteria.

Applicants must have valid identification documents, bank account details and records related to their livestock enterprise. Banks verify eligibility before approving the credit limit.

Farmers are advised to contact their nearest bank branch or agriculture office to understand the latest eligibility conditions and required documents.

The Kisan Credit Card offers credit at concessional interest rates as per government guidelines. Timely repayment can also make borrowers eligible for interest subvention benefits, reducing the effective cost of borrowing.

Easy availability of credit allows livestock farmers to purchase quality feed, improve animal nutrition and adopt better management practices. This can increase milk production, improve animal health and strengthen farm incomes.

Access to formal credit also reduces dependence on private moneylenders who often charge higher interest rates.

Supporting Growth in Animal Husbandry

Livestock contributes significantly to rural livelihoods and agricultural income in India. Better access to finance enables farmers to invest in improved breeds, scientific management and disease prevention, resulting in higher productivity.

Government-backed credit schemes such as the Kisan Credit Card are expected to play an important role in expanding the dairy and livestock sector, especially among small and marginal farmers.

With collateral-free loans of up to ₹2 lakh, the KCC scheme provides livestock farmers with an opportunity to strengthen their businesses, improve productivity and build a more stable source of income through scientific animal husbandry practices.
