Earning from Poultry Management: Today we are going to tell you the story of a farmer who has taken his poultry farm to new heights. Through his determination and new techniques, he not only increased his income but also set an example in the poultry industry.
Sabahat Ullah Khan, living in Arambol village of Goa, started a goat and poultry farm. Although he faced many problems in the beginning, he did not give up. Problems included death of chicks, low production and lack of correct information about poultry farming etc. To solve all these problems, he sought help from ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa.
Help taken from ICAR-CCARI, Goa
Sabahat Khan’s journey to earning from Poultry Management was still a little far away. He took a 6-day training at ICAR-CCARI, Goa. There he learned about scientific poultry farming, producing good chicks, cheap feed for chickens and ways to prevent diseases. After learning from there, he raised good breed chickens like Srinidhi, Grampriya and Vanraj.

After training, the mortality rate of chicks on his farm decreased from 25 percent to 5 percent and the weight of chickens also started increasing. Sabahat Khan also started rearing Japanese quail, duck, turkey and guinea fowl, expanding his business.
Apart from this, Sabahat Khan also started hatchery business. He started producing and selling chicks, quail and ducklings, in which he was successful in selling more than 50,000 quail chicks.
As a result of all these efforts, his farm’s income increased by 30 percent. Selling chicken meat brought an additional 15 percent income. Overall, Sabahat Khan earned a net income of Rs 2,50,000 a year by selling eggs and chickens. Encouraged by this success, Sabahat Khan is now planning to expand his business further.
