Do accurate irrigation, fertilizer management with automatic drip
Save water, energy and labour with automatic drip irrigation and fertigation
With the help of this technology, water, energy and labour are saved. Farmers can get rich yields from their farming by using automated drip irrigation and fertigation system. Read here about the special conversation with E. Manoj Kumar Rai, senior agricultural scientist and head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kishanganj, Bihar, about this technology.
Scientists have invented Auto Drip Irrigation Fertigation technology to irrigate more area in less water. With proper use of fertilizer along with water, more production can be achieved in less cost. What is Automatic Drip Irrigation and Fertigation System? Regarding this, E. Manoj Kumar Rai, senior agricultural scientist and head of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kishanganj, Bihar, had a detailed conversation with the Kisan of India.
With low pressure and control, giving water directly to the root of the crops as per their requirement is called Drip Irrigation. In drip irrigation, reaching the plants along with water and fertilizers is called fertigation.
Agricultural scientist E. Manoj Kumar Rai said that with the help of this technology, water, energy and labour are saved. Farmers can get rich yields from their farming by using automated drip irrigation and fertigation system operated in an automated manner.
Agricultural scientist further explains that drip irrigation is done by drippers, in the same way fertilizers are added to the irrigation water in the fertigation technique. The fertilizers are then delivered directly to the plants by drippers with the help of interceptors.
Computer operated automatic drip irrigation and fertigation system
E. Manoj Rai told that automatic drip irrigation and fertigation system is operated by computer. Valves are included with this system. For how long, how much water is to be given through the valve, its setting is made from the computer. The farmer can control the entire system even without being on the farm. It can be operated from anywhere via internet.
Main pipe is installed in automatic drip irrigation and fertigation system. The water in this comes from the pond or the land. The water then passes through the filter tank to the outlet pipes. These pipes are mounted according to the field. Valves are mounted on this field pipe, which is controlled by the controller. The controller determines which field, which crop, how much water and when. For this, a program is set in the controller, through which the valve is operated automatically. When the crop needs irrigation, the machine starts automatically. The field is irrigated according to the need of the crops. The machine also shuts off automatically after the irrigation work is done. The system opens and closes automatically depending on the crop, water and fertilizer.
Improved technology for precise fertilizer management
Agricultural scientist E. Manoj Rai told that fertigation units are also installed for crops. Fertigation is carried out automatically, which consists of tanks for solution of nitrogen, phosphorous, potash and micronutrients which are connected to the fertilizer dosing pipe. For fertigation, dosing pipe valves are fitted, which are controlled by the controller. From this, fertilizers are given according to the need of the crops. In this too, the program is set in the controller that how much fertilizer is to be given to which crop and at what time. All the information is being received from the controller. The controller also gives information about when and how much fertilizer has been given to which crop.
E. Manoj Kumar Rai, head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kishanganj, further told that due to these features of this system, you can supply more or less water to different crops in your different gardens or fields as per their requirement. Through this system, a balanced amount of water will reach the plants at regular times. For this, you will not need to hire labourers, nor do you need to inspect the field and complete irrigation will be done in less water.
Crops get water and fertilizers in the right quantity and at the right time
Generally, only soluble fertilizers are used in fertigation, but fertigation can also be done with granular fertilizers. Soluble fertilizers are available in the market today. They can be used through drip.
Through this technology, easily the crops get nutrients through fertilizers in the right quantity at the right time. Both the quality and yield of crops are better. By saving water, energy and labour, the cost of automatic drip irrigation and fertigation system unit for improved irrigation is 7 to 8 lakh rupees.
There are many companies that manufacture it. Farmers can buy this system and use it in their farming and get full benefits. There is also facility of subsidy on this by the Central Government and the State Governments. For more information on subsidy, you can contact the Agriculture Department and Horticulture Department of your district.
