Ram Shankar Chaudhary, a resident of Dubai village in Siddharthnagar district of Uttar Pradesh, has inspired not only himself but also many farmers of his village with his new thinking and use of modern techniques in agriculture. Born in 1975, Ram Shankar has made his 11-15 acre farm a center of protected farming. Due to his efforts, today his fields produce high quality crops, which sell at a good price in the market. He adopted the model of modern and protected farming, moving away from traditional methods of farming, which has brought about a revolutionary change in the protection and productivity of crops.

The journey of protected farming and technological integration

Protected farming means using advanced technologies to protect crops, so that crops can be saved from weather, pests, and other external factors. Ram Shankar Chaudhary started using drones, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML) in his fields. He said, “With the help of drones, I can monitor my farm completely and spray pesticides and fertilizers on time.” This protects his crops from pest attacks and he gets the benefit of proper crop nutrition.

With the use of artificial intelligence, he is able to understand the weather and market trends, which helps him get the right price for his crop at the right time. Apart from this, he has also started using soil testing equipment to test the soil and get information about the balance of nutrients. Ram Shankar says, “Earlier we were not able to accurately estimate the moisture or nutrients of the soil, but now with the use of these devices we are able to control everything.”

Achievements in crop production and his inspiring journey

Ram Shankar Chaudhary’s hard work and technical knowledge earned him the honor for the highest wheat production in 2017. He selected the HD 2967 wheat variety, which helped him increase the production of his crop. This variety is not only more productive, but it also has more disease resistance, which reduces the expenses of the farmers. After this achievement, Ram Shankar became an inspiration among the farmers of the region.

He said, “After experimenting with HD 2967 wheat, I saw that with the right seeds and proper technical use, we can increase production. This also increased my income and other farmers were also inspired by my experiment.” In addition, in view of his innovations, the NITI Aayog of the Government of India honored him with a special honor on 15 August in Delhi in 2024, which was to appreciate his innovative approach and contribution to agriculture.

Benefits and encouragement of government schemes

Ram Shankar Chaudhary has also taken advantage of many schemes of the government in farming. He received assistance for rotavator, subsidy on seeds, Kisan Samman Nidhi, and construction of vermicompost shed. Ram believes that these schemes played an important role in reducing his cost and making farming profitable. He said, “The subsidy from the government helped me buy new machinery, which reduced both labor and cost in my farm.”

Ram has started using vermicompost in his farm, which is very beneficial for organic farming. This not only increases the fertility of the soil but also improves the quality of the crop. His initiative in organic farming is being appreciated in the area and farmers are learning the technique of vermicompost from him and using it in their fields.

Step towards organic farming

Ram Shankar Chaudhary has also started promoting organic farming in his farm. By using vermicompost, he is nourishing the soil of his farm naturally, which has reduced his dependence on chemical fertilizers. His crops from organic farming are safe for health, and they also have a good demand in the market. This has also increased his income.

An inspiration for regional farmers

This journey of Ram Shankar Chaudhary has made him an ideal farmer in Siddharthnagar district. Many farmers have been inspired by seeing the use of modern techniques in his farm and consider him their guru. Inspired by his hard work and experience, many farmers have adopted protected and organic farming and increased their crop production. He has trained local farmers to check soil quality, select the right seeds and use technical knowledge properly.

Ram Shankar says, “I want all farmers to make farming profitable by using advanced techniques. Only with the right information and use of the right technology can a farmer become self-reliant.”

This story of Ram Shankar Chaudhary is an inspiration for the farmers of Siddharthnagar and the entire Uttar Pradesh. His hard work, use of new techniques and efforts to make farming profitable with government assistance have proved that if dedication and the right techniques are used at the right time, farming can be made not only a means of profit but also an ideal business. His achievements will encourage other farmers to follow the path of modern farming in the times to come.
