0

Mamta Pramod Thakur, a resident of Karla, a small village in Maharashtra, is a progressive farmer and social worker. Her farming has come a long way from conventional farming to organic farming, with a special focus on soil fertility and eco-friendly farming. She started organic farming through self-help groups, with the aim of not only improving her crop but also empowering local women.

Process and results of organic farming

Mamta started using organic fertilizers, such as Jeevamrit, Kunda, Dashparni extract, and Neem extract, in her crops. When she was interviewed on this subject, she said, “Organic fertilizers are very easy and economical to use as compared to chemical fertilizers. It not only improves the quality of the crop but also improves the soil structure.”

She also added that the mulch and plants grown in the farm are used as organic food products, which has reduced the cost significantly. Mamata manufactures fertilizers and pesticides on her farm herself, including natural products like Dashparni extract and Jeevamrit. These efforts significantly reduced the cost of production, and the crops grown are also safer for health.

Social Service: Awareness campaign in the village

Mamata is not just a farmer but also an active social worker. She ran an anti-alcohol campaign in her village and made the village alcohol-free after two to three years of efforts. During the Corona epidemic, Mamata distributed masks to the people and spread awareness about vaccination. Helped disabled persons and took them to the vaccination center. Under the Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan, Mamata went door to door in the village to make people aware of the national festival.
