The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has released a new climate-resilient maize hybrid designed to improve productivity under variable weather conditions. The hybrid combines higher yield potential with better tolerance to moisture stress and resistance to major diseases, making it suitable for farmers facing increasingly unpredictable rainfall.
Maize has become one of India’s fastest-growing cereal crops due to rising demand from the poultry, feed, starch and ethanol industries. Scientists say improved hybrids are essential for helping farmers meet this demand while reducing production risks caused by climate change.
