Millets are very beneficial for health, but not everyone likes their taste. Now take Ragi (Finger millet) only, it is very nutritious but children do not like its bread. Yes, if chips or biscuits are available, then it is eaten with great gusto.

This is the reason why Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Pauri, Garhwal is not only telling the rural women the benefits of millets but also teaching them to make various value-added products from millets. This help the women to become self-reliant. Regarding this initiative of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kisan of India correspondent Sarvesh Bundeli spoke to scientist Dr. Rashmi Limbu.

Training on Value Added Products

Along with enumerating the benefits of millets to rural women, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Pauri, Garhwal is also training women to make value addition products. Actually, people do not like to eat millet directly or eat only its bread. So, it can be made as a value addition product and reach more and more people’s plates.

Dr. Rashmi says that in the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, women are taught to make many things from different types of millet. For example, training is given to make Manduay snacks and cookies. Jhangora papad making is taught. Similarly, training is given to women to make value addition products from all millets. Women from different blocks come here to learn.
