Fish farming is a technique in the agricultural sector, which is now rapidly becoming popular in India. Farmers working in this field are not only enriching their farms with their hard work, experience and new thinking, but are also setting an example for other farmers. There are two such farmers, who are sharing their experiences and success story related to fish farming. This story is not of any particular person, but of that class of farmers, who are trying to do something different from the traditional way of agriculture with their hard work and intelligence.

Beginning

Pushpak and Vandana started farming in 2018 and launched their company in 2019. The company participated in the ‘Startup India’ program and gave a new platform to their work after being selected as a finalist. They did a lot of new things in the field, including producing more fish in less space and packing the fish and transporting it to other places.

Unique methods of farming

Their method of fish farming is very modern and effective. They not only rear fish but also packs them and sends them to other places. One unit of their company is located in Satijagad, while the other unit is located in Kolkata. In Satijagad, along with fish farming, they also build ponds and other facilities for the farmers.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, they provide sheer (ponds) to the farmers and also provide them guidance for fish farming.

Fish packing and transportation

They have a packing unit in Kolkata, from where they pack live fish and send them to Agartala in Tripura. From here, the fish are sent by air, which reaches there in just a few hours. Apart from this, they have also done research related to fish farming, due to which it has become easier to pack the fish properly and send it to far-flung places.

They also told us that there is a lot of difference in the prices of fish in India. While fish is available cheap in North India, it is expensive in South India and other regions. Taking advantage of this difference, the company buys fish at cheap prices and sells it in expensive areas.

Research and experience

To achieve success in fish farming, both Pushpak and Vandana did extensive research. For example, they tried to know where cheap fish can be found, and where the demand for them is high. Their research work was focused on gathering every small and big information related to fish farming. Apart from this, he learned from his experience how the method of packing fish can be improved.

Apart from this, they have all the equipment and resources required for fish farming. Despite this, they believe that if any work is done properly, then success is definitely achieved.

Business approach

The business approach is very precise and effective. They believe that fish farming is not just a traditional business, but it is a business done from a modern and technical point of view. They have incorporated many new techniques in his work, which has made fish farming a more profitable deal.

According to them, if any farmer involved in fish farming wants to do this business, then they will also have to work in the field of packing, transportation and marketing. Packing the fish and sending it to the right place and selling it there properly is a challenging task, but if it is done correctly then it gives good benefits.

Benefits of government schemes

Both the farmers have also taken advantage of government schemes. His company was selected under ‘Startup India’, but they could not get the funds. However, this was a big opportunity for them as it helped them to take his company forward.

He has taken advantage of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, which has given him ponds and other necessary resources for fish farming. Apart from this, government schemes have been helpful for them in helping the farmers.

Benefits associated with fish farming

Fish farming can be a profitable business, provided it is done correctly. According to them, the profit potential in fish farming is very high. They believe that this business can give a profit of 40% to 60%. However, this profit is after the transportation and packing expenses.

They also explain that fish farmers should rear fish from small fry to big fish, so that they can benefit at every stage.

Message

They give message that fish farming is a business in which success can be achieved with hard work and intelligence. They say that by adopting fish farming as a business, farmers cannot only increase their income, but can also earn more profit by combining it with farming.

In the field of fish farming, both farmers present a great example of how a new approach and the right information can bring success to any business. Their hard work, dedication and research have given him a distinct identity in this field.
