If you want, you can start the business of ornamental fish farming even from a small place. The good thing is that this work does not require much hard work and the profit is good. Kisan of India correspondent Sarvesh Bundeli discussed many important things related to ornamental fish farming with Professor Dr. Nilesh Kumar of Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University.

Needs of ornamental fish

Professor Dr. Nilesh Kumar of Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University considers ornamental fish farming a good business. He says that the demand for ornamental fish is increasing not only in the country but also abroad. There are many employment opportunities in this field. He says that there are two types of fish. One is those which are produced for eating or other industrial use and the other fish is ornamental fish, which is used only for decoration, it is not eaten.

He tells that ornamental fish farming is good in fresh fresh water. The water in the tank where fish farming is being done should have 4-6 mg of oxygen per liter. A temperature of 28-30 degrees is considered good for ornamental fish farming. It should be kept in mind that the lesser the amount of ammonia in the water, the better it is for the fish. If someone does fish farming keeping these parameters in mind, then he does not need to do much.

Breeding of ornamental fish

Regarding the breeding of ornamental fish, Professor Dr. Nilesh Kumar tells that there are three types of breeding in ornamental fish. Some fish give birth to babies directly, some fish lay eggs, while some fish keep the eggs in their mouth and take them out when they get fertilized. Gold fish lay eggs. Gold fish are of 50-60 colors in North India. At the same time, some fish breed well even in normal environment. There is a fish called Shark Tail, if you keep it in a normal tank and keep feeding it properly, then its reproduction is very good. These fishes can be reared easily.

Don’t just do fish farming

Professor Dr. Nilesh Kumar advises farmers that they should not only do business of ornamental fishes, but also do business of aquariums and its accessories like filters, ornamental things along with fishes. This will increase the profit because people buy all these things along with colorful fishes. If someone wants to do business of these fishes, then he can rear them very easily.

It is important to take care of the pH, ammonia, oxygen etc. of water. Anyone can do good business by maintaining them. Information related to ornamental fish farming, breeding, fish culture, fish diseases etc. is also given in Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University. Professor Nilesh says that there is some risk in this business as well, but if you want to do any business, then you have to take risk.

Diet of ornamental fish

Professor Dr. Nilesh Kumar says that as the name of these fish is ornamental fish, they are not fed any food that looks dirty in the tank. There is a separate feed available for them in the market, that is what should be fed to them. This fish feed looks like mustard seeds and it floats when put in water, due to which the water does not get dirty and the fish eat it according to their own.

What to keep in mind

Colorful fish are softer than ordinary fish, so they should be reared in cement tanks.

For ornamental fish farming, the right ratio of one male and one female should be kept. For this, the ratio of one male and five females can also be kept, but do not forget to give them regular diet.

By keeping 35 percent protein in the food of fish, their growth is fast and good.

After 4 months, these ornamental fish are ready for sale.

Earning from ornamental fish farming

Ornamental fish farming can be done from small to large scale. If someone wants to set up a small unit, then 50 to 60 thousand rupees are spent on shed, fish feed and necessary items. In such a situation, he can earn 3-5 thousand rupees every month. If a farmer invests one lakh 20 thousand, then he can earn 8-9 thousand rupees every month. If a farmer invests 25 lakh rupees on a large scale, then he can earn up to 1.2-1.5 lakhs every month. To encourage ornamental fish farming, subsidy is being given under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana Scheme of the Central Government. Under this scheme, there is a provision to give 60 percent subsidy to female beneficiaries and 40 percent subsidy to male beneficiaries.
