Make wood from cow dung: In earlier times, cow dung was used for plastering houses and making firewood, but after urbanization, its use gradually started decreasing. In urban areas, cow dung started piling up outside the cowshed and management of cow dung became difficult for farmers. To deal with this problem, Kartik Pal, an engineer from Patiala, has made a unique machine, with which wood can be made from cow dung.
In the last few years, amid increased awareness towards the environment, many useful things have started being made from cow dung, such as pots made of cow dung, paint made of cow dung, etc. Kartik has made a unique machine to make wood from cow dung and powder from cow dung. Kisan of India correspondent Akshay Dubey talked to him about this special machine.
How did he get the idea of a machine to make wood from cow dung?
Karthik says that after completing engineering in 2014, he used to make machines to cut fodder. He went to a cowshed to deliver a machine and seeing the pile of cow dung there, he thought about its proper management. He saw many cowshed owners and farmers upset due to the pile of cow dung. Then he thought why not make something from it, which is useful and which also benefits the farmers. The result of this thinking of his is a machine to make wood from cow dung.
10,000 machines sold
Kartik Pal says that it came to his mind that just like there is a machine to make vermicelli, in which vermicelli comes out after putting flour in it, then why not make a similar machine in which a new product comes out after putting cow dung and then in 2018 he made a machine to make wood from cow dung.
But initially the cowshed people did not show interest in this machine, so Kartik advised them to use it. Then gradually people understood its utility and the demand for Kartik’s product started increasing. Kartik says that he has sold 10,000 machines so far.
Cow dung wood making machine: Use of wood
Kartik says that cow dung wood is used in worship, havan, crematorium etc. Round and square wood can be made from the machine. He says that if you want, you can use camphor, flower powder in the wood used for havan, which will give a good smell while burning. If someone wants to make wood for commercial use, then 70 percent cow dung and 30 percent coal powder, wood powder or rice husk can be used, which increases the burning power of the wood. Karthik says that this wood does not harm the environment either.
How does the machine for making wood from cow dung work?
Karthik told that 3-4 days old cow dung is put in the machine and a wood shaped product comes out from the pipe of the machine. Old cow dung is used in it so that the shape of the wood comes out correctly and it dries easily. Karthik says that fresh cow dung should not be used in it. After making the wood, it is dried well in the sun.
Cow dung drying machine
Karthik has made a machine for making wood from cow dung as well as a cow dung drying machine. Actually, it was difficult for the farmers to keep the wet cow dung for 2-3 days, so in 2021 he made a cow dung dryer machine which separates water from the cow dung and turns it into powder. Cow dung water can be used as a spray in the fields and its powder is used as fertilizer, as well as incense sticks can also be made from it.
Dung wood making machine: How much is the price?
Karthik says that a cow gives about 10 kg of cow dung in a day, which is not fully used. In such a situation, farmers can easily increase their income by making wood from this machine. The cost of making wood is not very high, you just have to spend some money to buy the machine once. The machine costs Rs 65,000 and 18 percent GST is charged. Two people are required to run it. There is also no cost on the maintenance of the machine. Just clean it thoroughly after use. The cost of making one kilogram of wood is Rs 2.5 and it is easily sold at the rate of Rs 5 per kilogram.
