Since his grandfather was a farmer, he was already interested in farming. This is the reason why he thought of doing vermicompost business. Apart from this, they also say there is no scope for much loss or fraud in this, so they consider it a safe business.

How to become a profitable business?

Alok Kumar says that the vermicompost business is a profitable sector. For this, it is important that you do it with full understanding. It is necessary to create a balance of input and output and the market is very important. That is, it is more important than making a product to find its market. First of all, you should know about your product and why it is better than urea.

Also, what are the things needed in making a product and why. Farmers have to understand why it is better than chemical fertilizers. Also, you need to know about your target customer.

Vermicompost also contains micro organisms, which are not present in chemical fertilizers. So when it is added to the soil, it makes it more fertile. Actually, every soil contains things like potash, phosphorus and nitrogen, but over time they get buried inside the soil. In such a situation, when vermicompost is used, all these get activated and make the soil fertile and there is a good crop.

How is Vermicompost business beneficial for farmers?

Alok Kumar says that if farmers produce vermicompost, their input cost will reduce and profit will increase. Farmers can produce vermicompost by managing cow dung. Then, they will not have to buy manure from the market. The money of fertilizers and urea will be saved, along with the use of organic fertilizers, the crops will be good and they will also become self-sufficient.

How much does it cost?

Alok Kumar says that for vermicompost production, beds have to be made. Bed’s width should be 4 feet and length of the bed is decided according to the length of the ground. The cost of preparing vermicompost is Rs 350 per foot.

If you want to do vermicompost business, you can start with 25 beds of 30 feet. 50 kg of cow dung and 1500 earthworms are put in one foot length. They are left for a month and only water is added, due to which the number of earthworms doubles. Along with this, Alok Kumar says that the problem of ants is seen in many places, so jaggery solution should not be used there to keep the ants away. If you want to use jaggery, then reduce the amount of jaggery. Keep Also, to remove the problem of termites, use neem cake while preparing the beds.

Advice to Beginners

Those who want to start vermicompost business, Alok Kumar advises them not to invest all the money they have in the first go rather divide it into three parts. Invest the first part for the first time, use the second part as working capital and keep the third part as a backup. This is because money does not come immediately from any business. To make profit from this business, it is very important that you gather information about your product. Telling people how it is better than other competitors and finding a market to sell to is very important.
