Income reached Rs 3 lakh to 12 lakh by adopting integrated farming model, Jai Shankar Kumar of Begusarai became mentor trainer

Along with farming, doing other agricultural activities related to fisheries, pearl production, push rearing, vermicompost production, poultry, etc. is called an integrated farming system. Jai Shankar Kumar, a farmer of Tetari village of Dandari block of Begusarai used to earn only 27 thousand rupees a month, but now his income has increased to more than one lakh rupees per month and this happened by adopting integrated farming system.
48-year-old Jai Shankar Kumar, a post graduate in chemistry, has 4 hectares of land on which he used to grow traditional crops like rice, maize, wheat and coarse cereals earlier, but it did not earn him enough income. He started looking for other options. He participated in many training programs and camps where he met many scientists of Krishi Vigyan Kendra. On his advice, Jai Shankar Kumar decided to adopt the Integrated Farming Method.
Adopted many sectors of agriculture
Thanks to the technical support of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, he started cultivating fisheries, horticulture, animal husbandry, vermicompost, bird husbandry and agricultural crops under integrated farming system. He started fish farming by making a pond in an area of about 0.5 hectare. Along with this, he also started cultivating pearls in fresh water. Seeing the dedication of his work, the Agriculture Department of Bihar gave him a financial help of Rs 25 lakh to produce Vermicompost on a large scale. Presently he is producing 3,000 metric tonnes of vermicompost annually.
Krishi Vigyan Kendra’s cooperation in making polyhouse
He was assisted by the Horticulture Department in helping to build the polyhouse and preparing the seedlings for the cultivation of vegetables in off season. Along with this, Krishi Vigyan Kendra Begusarai also provided them all kinds of technical assistance and also keeps advising them to update their technology from time to time.
Annual income of around Rs 12 lakh
Before adopting the integrated farming system, he could earn only about Rs 3.24 lakh annually, but now he earns about Rs 1.08 lakh per month and about Rs 12.96 lakh annually from fisheries, vermicompost production, horticulture, pearl farming, bird farming etc. Continuous income is coming.
Mentor trainer for fellow farmers
