Dr. U.S. Gautam appointed as Deputy Director General in ICAR
Held many important positions in 33 years of work experience
Dr. U.S. Gautam took charge as the Deputy Director General (Agriculture Extension) in the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-ICAR, New Delhi. Earlier Dr. U.S. Gautam was holding the post of former Director in ICAR-ATARI, Kanpur. From 2018 to 2021, Dr. U.S. Gautam also served as the Vice-Chancellor of Banda’s University of Agriculture and Technology.
Dr. U.S. Gautam has held key positions in his work experience of nearly 33 years, which includes 3 years as Vice Chancellor and 12 years as Director in ICAR institutes. Dr. Gautam is the recipient of 15 awards, including 4 National Awards. Whereas former President Bharat Ratna Late. Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam has also appreciated his works.
Dr. U.S. Gautam was born in Varanasi district of Uttar Pradesh. He did his graduation and post graduation with specialization in Agricultural Extension Education, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, B.H.U. From
Then completed Ph.D. degree from National Milk Research Institute, Karnal with ICAR-Fellowship. Dr. Gautam started his career as Assistant Extension Specialist (Agriculture Extension) in November 1989 at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bajaura, Kullu, Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University.
Then worked as Senior Scientist, Principal Scientist and Head of the Department from 1998 to 2006 in Eastern Region ICAR-Research Complex, Patna Bihar. Took charge in 2006 as Zonal Project Director in Zonal Project Directorate Zone-7 (ICAR-JNKVV Campus, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh).
Only after this, on February 24, 2015, took charge as Director at ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Rawatpur, Kanpur. As the main achievement of the tenure of 03 years, 20 new/additional Krishi Vigyan Kendras were established in UP Zone-III itself. In the year 2018, he became Vice Chancellor, Banda University of Agriculture and Technology, Banda, Uttar Pradesh, after being appointed by the Honourable Governor, took charge on 25.10.2018.
While holding the post of Vice-Chancellor, dry farming project in the field of research, Seed Hub’s attempt to make Bundelkhand a bowl of pulses again, Integrated farming system, Silent rearing unit, Establishment of central laboratory, Mushroom unit, Different breeding in agricultural and horticultural crops. Material collection and conservation, renovation of various research centers, providing infrastructure facilities and seed production was an important effort.
